It's not just the DR. There are tons of great kite kids in the Carribean. I brought this subject up to a seasoned pro rider who is world traveled. He even admitted that most of these kids are way better than some of the pro's. So I asked why they can't get some kind of sponsorship. This person said, "Because they are not relatable for magazine sales". These kids are not "the profile". Reality check. I live in a bubble. Duh. We all want to be Kristin Boese & Brandon Scheid.

Good intentions. Kind & Generous hearts. We all want to help. But what to do? Make these kids work for it. That is real life. If it makes you feel good to teach money. Spend the time doing it. OR teach these kids to speak better english or how to repair a kite. What they decide to do with the gear or money is their affair. They earned it - they have a right to do with it as they please.

It bums me out to see these kids with amazing skills using dangerous gear. If you want to donate gear - then maybe Vela or another school could have a "library system" for it. I don't have the answers but you all seem to have really good ideas.

I'm going to the DR the first two weeks in May. Let me know if I can help.

I like the library system with someone like Vela. They have lots of locations. Kids in school get priority. They would need to fix any damage done before using again. That is good because basic repair is a skill all kiters should have. It also keeps you in touch with your equipment and give you better knowledge of it. Then they cant sell it or anything like that.

I am talking with dream right now. They are the school here. and i think Wensday or Thursday Julie at dream and Lura eastman and i are gonna sit down and talk. But what we have so far came up with is doing it threw the school and then Kids who have been doing well will be able to use gear Meaning they can check it out for a day or two then return it. So that way we are not creating beach bums and giving the kids reason to stay in school.

That really sounds great. Laurel has a good head for thinks like that. A program like that would be very good and positive.

So its been done and finalized. If you want to donate gear Send it to 2nd wind sports or contact me.

The equipment will be kept at Laurels school, LEK, Kids will be able to use gear depending on Grades attendance and Sportsmanship and Showing that they can be trusted.

Awesome! Nice follow through on getting things organized. Laurel has a great operation and a really good relationship with the community. Score one for the kids!
