I'm about to buy a three kite quiver(ocean rodeo). Wondering if someone may know something about their kites. I plan on doing most my kiting in the gorge or Oregon coast(netarts Oceanside area). I've asked friends and have been given a wide range of answers. I was thinking the 2011 sle rize 6,9,12 meter. Any advice would be helpful! Also on the two different bars( freeride and freestyle). New to the sport but plan on being obsessed like everyone I know and living in the water.

Whats your weight? If your in the 165-190 lbs range I would say thats a solid quiver.

Welcome Tlooney85. Now say goodbye to all your free time Smile

not pimping or anything. But I do work at Windance and we sell ocean rodeos and am fairly familiar with them.
I agree with Chooch and your budies, a 6/9/12 is awesome for the Gorge and the Coast.

As for the bars.

The Freestyle would be more for the Razor and is an above the bar depower strap. It has a some-what-limited throw so you need to be good at edging in case you get overpowered.

The Freeride is a below the bar depower cleat with a long throw. But works solid for getting your butt out of trouble. Just have to make sure you use the Stopper cleat. I would pick this bar for you.

Here's a vid of it in action. (sorry about the cheezy nariation voice, they should have had Morgan Freeman read it) Smile

Hope that helps.

6/9/12 is the correct answer.

It is also the date of June 9th 2012. Coincidence?

I also say go for the pink kites. They will look fantastic sitting in the water crashing plus easier for everyone to see you. You know I think hyperflex makes a pink wetsuit also... hhmmm.......

Do what I do. Buy all the possible sizes and then figure out which ones you don't use much later. You end up with too many kites, but you always have the right size Smile

I'm close to your weight, but due to knee issues I'm only riding skims these days.

At Jones beach the money sizes for Rev/Octanes have been 9 & 11m.

At SI, its 11 & 13M.

My new 10M Rally seems to cover all of the above so far.

Nope.

The diagnosis was that my knee is pretty much fucked. Motorcycle accidents, downhill skiing accidents, surgeries, and that final tweak kiteboarding have toasted it beyond repair. They told me that the only thing they could do would be a total knee replacement, which they said wouldn't be much of an improvement in terms of stability. But, they also said I've only got 10 years max left on my messed up knee before I won't even be able to walk on it anymore, and then I'll have to get the total knee replacement...

The good news is, I've certainly got my money's worth out of it over the years Smile

So your 10M Rally is covering your 9/11/13 Revs? I'm picking up a 10M Rally and considering a 12M also. I have a 12M Havoc right now that doesn't necessarily need to be replaced. Is the range really that good on the Rally? I'm 6' - 195.

I'm 165 and I'm on a skim. The winds I usually kite in range from just capping (SI) to about 25mph (Jones).

The 10M seems to be the money kite for me. I've been surprised and pleased with the big range. I picked up a 12M too, but I'm not sure how much I'm going to end up using it.

Are you mostly riding the gorge?
