I think the only detriment to video productions now-a-days is the go-pro. If I see another video with more than 2 seconds of it,.... it's bye bye. Keep that shi* to yourself.
(sorry stringy- I mean no disrespect, you're shit is always cool-- and especially since you pioneered the mount and you're doing your job) but for the rest of you... you've been warned. Go pro is great for still pics, and **maybe** for self-improvement/progression. Not so good for others to view...
I'm always stoked to see online vid's because there made by us kiters who have enough passion about the sport to want to make videos. I might not watch every single video, I might even skip thru it looking for the one clip i think is decent. But until y'all made a kite video, and learn the amount of skills required for producing a quality video...Why be such a downer?
Lets get some more stoke going eh?...this is only part of what you've all been missing in Idaho....Snowkite Soldier is coming

hey guys, don't be such haters.
the quickest way to keep your buddies form sharing their videos is knowing that you all have got criticism towards how they are edited.
everybody is entitled to how they percieve their creative side.
just as you are all entitled to your opinion.
nobody is making you watch a video.
Sure the success of the GoPro line mount helps me put my daughter through college. I love that.
I don't think there is anything wrong with making a full video using gopro, just need to be more creative.
anyhow phil, my challenge for everyone that responded with criticism on this thread, come out with your most epic kite video using a gopro.
shit I will even sponsor the contest. That's right I'll get kitehero.com to come up with a prize and you have the video contest held on nwkite. that way all you peeps can judge, be judged, and get bragging rights.
kraemer is a pro so he can be a judge.
I'll be a judge too. there you go.
Contest. what you think?
in the meantime watch a video I put together this morning from a recent trip to hatteras.
all filmed on one little piece of crap camera.
just gotta get creative.
don't be haters.

dang yall taking it personal I didn't mean northwest kiter videos! I just post here because this is the only place I post. I love NW vids, long intros and all.
Just maybe more a general instruction for those around the world that we're moving to 140 characters, 30 second clips, 5 second sound bytes, short, attention, span.
So get to da goods! Oh yeah and I like the GoPro stuff... especially when you consider its a $200 camera it pumps out some pretty amazing quality video / stills.
Stringy your vid had a nice 40 second intro that was high energy and had shots of gear and smiling peeps... I think it worked well. I also like it because you are my bud and I like watching my buds in videos. But if i am watching a video from some kid in Germany, I want it to be short and to the point!
maybe we need 30 second teaser for videos that are 5 minutes? Also let me point out again that I was the worst offender when I made a video, it included:
- intro credits
- time elapse
- boring slow moving footage
- 2 minutes without kiting
Horrible, what was I thinking? well at the time I thought it was pretty cool. But that was then, now I only have 30 seconds before my next email to watch a video so hop to it!
In closing, here's the trailer for Cowboys and Aliens, which I think is a pretty good example of editing

...
I agree 100%
I like the creative intros that set the scene showing conditions, travel, peeps, etc. Sure, we all use similar techniques, but if we only make a few videos a year we only have so many tricks in our bag. We're not pros, we have families calling to us on the side so are likely squeezing this in between work and bed-time hours and if you've ever edited even a short flick...they take time! Plus we're sharing them with non-kiters and our peers who are just happy to see friends they know in a video.
When I find the intros boring, I know how to work the fast forward button!
On my own videos I also know that the shorter they are, the more people get through them. Even though I still put up long vids... Vimeo shows me stats of the number of times a video is played and the number of times it is finished! Hardly any videos over a minute long get finished! Friggin' short attention span of kiters... damn adrenalin junkies.

I'm with you PKH. I was referring to the same type of videos. Everyone's a critic. We even got critics criticizing the critics. I love all the local vids too, keep em comin. In defense of pkh's vid it was like 5 years ago, which is kind of the point. _________________ "I don't believe in doing work that I don't want to do in order to live a life that I don't want to live."

this may be my worst offense yet.
but hey, at least I decided not to mix heavy metal with timelapse. hahaha.
buckle up for over 4 minutes of mostly timelapse with a little bit of board mounted mowing the lawn before the wind dies.
To top it off, it this baby was shot with 100% gopro goodness.
Great to hear others are sick of this too. I'm tired of seeing people hit the snooze alarm, roll out of bed, get in the car and drive to the beach. I don't care what kind of dog you have or how hot your girlfriend is. I'm tired of watching the wind rustle the leaves of the bougainvillea on your front porch. Who cares that you can weld your own slider. Oooh yeah, 30 seconds of fistpumping your bras, then pumping your kites. SUPER FAIL!

Mon Feb 07, 11 5:38 pmEveryones videos are great except!
Sorry for the bluntness but the last disco sry HD video of catchin air sucked brutally! 47 minutes before a 5 second shot of riding followed by a commercial an then 2 minutes of riding. Discovery and this minimal quantity of riding does not make sense!! HR episode was good for some local scenery and the entire other 3 episodes could have been shot around here too! Stop being picky about individual movies when you have national networks putting out Sh..t like they are now!!

Anyway we can start viewing more vids with some gangsta shit music..?
Ah Little Gin and Juice...
The Honky Tonk and Banjo stuff is ok but something to get people pumped and stoked would be better.
Thats just my 2-cents.
Over all, most vids are sweet... Props for those taking there time to post that stuff...

...can we take a little constructive criticism? Fraternal correction? Dude, I do know what goes into editing...a little less head-room, and the law of thirds, yaddyah yaddyah. I had an awesome go-pro video of my first time to SPI, and then I saw PKH's video (Ahm the Boss), and some of Stringy's awesome shit, over and over again, and I sed to myself, that's the shizzel, my nizzel. Some videos are meant for a few friends who were on the way there with you and had some beers afterwards. Others are meant for the internets.
Just sayin'...
And the only reason I'm bitchin' is cuz I watched your video...all of it...even the boring intro...I'm not sayin' don't post, just don't show me how you got there...
Peace out, Yo!

What about the build up before the real action of pornos , like that really gets me . They come up with all lame beginnings too . Like I'm waiting for my buddy an his mom does me while...........
I have done the same , starting with silly things that seemed relevant at the time , driving , plane stuff , blah . Ok for when your old an pissing on your shoes and can't remember where you went unless its on a sign in the video !

Ok here is some fresh fodder, this joker named "Aaron Hadlow" apparently can kite fairly well. The kiting starts at 30 seconds or so, not the worst by intro standards. It includes:
- intro text
- dudes fist bumping
- walking with gear to boat
- boat ride to spot
- kite pumping
- line rigging
- shot of girl in a bikini
