Thu Nov 18, 10 9:46 am Snowkiting starts TODAY?! |
|
|
I know i woke up itching today to go ride, a foot and a half of new snow on the mt (that is still closed) a forecast of mid twenties mph and a freezing level that is dropping by the day till it gets to 500 feet early next week! Who else is stoked. I was going to head out to the Cliffs of the Dalles, but the freezing level today is 3,000 feet. I have heard it needs under 2,500 feet over there.
Does anyone know what the max elevation is that it starts working?
Also i have always wanted to ride out of bounds on the left side of Timberline. Every time i ride up Palmer on a windy day i just wish i had my kite. Has anyone ridden over there?
I figured start a feed that people could post there knowledge of local spots up for the crew to learn from and maybe find riding buddies for this first early snow!
Im down to go any day~

Brad Knows a place that was great for snowkiting up on the Dalles Mtn (in WA).

Aaron Sales did an article on Snowkiting in the NW, believe it was W. of Timberline near what I would call a "cleaver" or cliff. |

Mt. Hood has some good snowkiting. Weather is usually fickle. SW wind is consistant and best, but SW wind usually means whiteout conditions up in the alpine. SE is also good but rare.
Any other wind direction on Hood is doable, it just limits the amount of terrain that is rideable.
On the right day everything is rideable on the south and SE side. Access is from T-line or Meadows parking areas. I've also kited out of the white river sno-park prior to the wash-out. |

Where in S Oregon. I'm in Central Wa still waiting for some snow. My sled needs a little TLC. Does access require a sled down there? |

I heard that timberline is doable also. Was planning on hitting it up when it gets some more snow. I have a group of people interested in trying it. When I go I will post it to see if anyone else wants to go too. Or if anyone else knows when it is good let me know and I'll go too. It is a hell of alot better than the 34 degree temp and 50 degree ocean I am kiting in today at the ponds. _________________ *AIR PIRATES KITEBOARDING*

Mt Hood can be sweet! Just be sure to stay away from the ski areas and keep a low profile. We don't want what happened in Bend to happen on hood. |
