Why do drivers in Oregon and Washington always drive in the left lane?? Seriously. People actually use that lane to pass in other parts of the country.

The left lane rules. It is usually wide open, I can drive in it with no one in front of me. They can go around me if they are in a hurry. Very Happy

Because many people are just plain clueless and/or have never been taught the MOST BASIC rules of the road. At least that is what I tell myself as I pass them on the right!

I pass them on the left even if they are in the left lane. Wink

The road is full of them.
The right lane is now the new fast lane.

Also irritating is the I'm going to drive 43mph in a 55 until there is a passing lane then I will speed up to 65 so you can't pass me routine; a favorite of the weekend coast goers. Twice now Ive done 80 getting around someone like this only to see jonny law sitting in the bushes. I guess he was looking for someone doing 90 Smile

If the speed limit is posted on the right hand side of the road it means its for the right hand side, making the left the fastest way to get anywhere. DUH!

I hope this doesn't come as a shock to you, but the masses are asses. Joe Public and his offspring are stupid as wood and as ignorant as a blind dog.

I believe what goes through their pint sized brain when someone is attempting to pass is that they need to speed up because they must be going to slow.

It's because of the Truck speed limit, (55mph & 60mph in OR and WA respectively).

When the old, the slow and the scared drivers are faster than trucks, they make a habit of driving in the left lane. Chaos ensues.

one of my personal favorites is driving behind a slow driver on a 2-lane hwy, when you come to a passing lane they floor it. what is that? I don't have a lot of horsepower so if the passing lane is short or on a hill, I might not be able to get in front of them and then of course they slow down once it goes back to 2 lanes Evil or Very Mad

I hate it when you're on 84 and right lane guy is driving 65 on cruise control (cool no problem) but the ass clown next to him in the left lane is doing exactly 65 so you're basically following a road block. You pull up on his tail and then you get the "brake light" treatment. It's like the fucker is saying "65 is the speed limit and I'm not allowing anybody else to go faster."

The Gorge can add to this particularly painful experience because this usually happens while it's blowing and the jackasses in front of kiters don't realize the impact to our mental state when driving alongside a white capping river. Twisted Evil

This drives me crazy. If cops wrote tickets to people that lurk in the left lane here like they do in Europe it would be a huge help. Driving in Europe, you know that you do not hang out in the left lane. Porsches, Mercedes etc. come up on you going about 200K and start flashing there lights from way back, with every expectation that they will not have to slow down and that you will do whatever it takes to get our of the way. It's awesome and it's amazing how much traffic the highways can handle and they just keep flowing, because everyone only moves left to pass and then immediately moves back right. Driving in Europe is lesson number one for the kids I coach, when we head over there and It takes a few trips over before I'll let any of them behind the wheel, because you have to be so on it at all times. Here at home people just put on some DVD's, read some books, text some friends and cruise on down the left lane all day.

My favorite, a variation on the left lane theme. You're trying to merge on to the freeway. Left lane is completely empty. Jackasses in the right lane won't move to the left lane to let you in. Probably because it would be WAY to much effort to move back in to the right lane. Moving the steering wheel a few inches is SO exhausting. Rolling Eyes

I've spent several months collectively driving in England and I have to say they have it down. They take pride in doing it right. I love doing 120mph on the highway and going with the flow of traffic.

Going up timberline road can suck Ballz if you get stuck behind a jack ass. They drive like 25 miles, except when the one passing lane comes by - they fucking gun it like their life depends on it. Then slow back down. Fucking ass clowns!!!!!
