Damn, it didn't look like he had that hard of a landing. And the dude didn't yell or anything. Totally sucks fer ser. I wonder if he had a pre-existing injury. Like a weak femur or something and it gave out thus breaking everything else.
Either way - hope the dude heals up quick. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

You would think differently if you were on the board....he fell about 20' straight down (the wall ride killed all his forward momentum). If he had some forward spped he might have been ok. Those guys are nuts.
Another broken video

Coolest slider setup I have ever seen.

how does the forward speed help? it seems like the vertical speed at impact would be based on the size of the drop...
if you have forward speed, does the board give you some lift as your falling and thus slow down your vertical speed?
just curious - that sport is not appealing. |

I didn't watch the other videos but that Winch from the domino's one is pretty darn cool.
I wonder how much those pallets f'd up their boards. Cool idea though. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

need Hein to chime in!
the forward momentum would spread the impact force rather than focusing it directly up to a single spot - can't imagine a two story plunge to a flat landing - if i mistime a 3ft jump and land flat on the skim my back is sore for a week.. _________________ Go Deep!

Scary to see that injury from flat landing off what looks like only 12-15 feet drop.
Was it just bad landing on the water? You would almost think he hit an object....
In my youth I jumped off things 10-12 feet high just for fun. No more.
tl;dr: hope he didn't also injure his brain cell. |

If I had to guess, the forward speed would dissipate the surface tension in the water. I know that the faster I'm moving forward, the less my knees ache with harsh landings. For example, when I'm tossing backrolls to blind, if I go bigger and faster, I have a way better chance of landing it than if I just go at a conservative pace. The landing just feels softer.
Joby would be another good dude to chime in here. |

it's like skating....
they can do the 30-stair drops to flat cause they are hauling ass...
think how hard skateboard wheels are compared to water with a rockered-out board.... |
