just passing this on for those who don't read Temira
"Kiters, I received an email yesterday from the Columbia Hills Park Ranger. The Lyle Sandbar is currently closed to kiting, and the parking area at the corner of SR 14 and old highway 8 is closed as well. Railroad law enforcement officers and police will be enforcing the parking and kiting bans, so for the sake of the fire suppression effort and your wallet, pick another place to go kiting."

Leave Lyle to the fire crews. They've got a hard enough job as it is without dealing with a bunch of kites.

open for access from the water, not the road. Lots of police and park rangers in the area until this is completely mopped up.

Lyle is a nature reserve - not a spot meant for recreation. So even by boat or jet ski access its not a legit spot.
And for people who have asked if you can cross under the bridge. Ignoring the fact that no one should be on the lyle sand bar, because its a nature resere and not a recreational area - the answer is no. First, you have a logistics problem. You would have to repel down with all your gear. And then repel back up. But even if you are an avid rock climber - you can't cross under the bridge. Thats still illegal. You can still get fined or have up to 6 months in jail where you will have to toss the salad. The RR company has access rights over and under the bridge. So there is no legitimate way to cross the tracks without getting a ticket - over, under, sideways, clothed, naked, wearing a mask - doesn't matter.

I think the law is 100 feet to either side of the tracks.
Moto, just to correct you slightly, the Klickitat sand spit is public land maintained by the USFS. There is no closure order in place, so there is no ban of public use of the land. Access is a whole other can of worms.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

I'm thinking that GIANT helicopter has a larger impact on the Nature preserve than many, many kiters ever would.
