Attention Whore!

Find a nice concrete parking lot with light poles and cars to get yourself ready for obstacle avoidence in the water. One of those two things can also slow you down if you get into trouble.

Please note, he didn't listen to anybody...just like you didn't.

This may come as a total shock, but people like you pop up every year and every year its the same thing. People that really have a desire to kiteboard go on the internet or to a local shop and find out where the lessons are, go take them, and live happily ever after.

I can be quite helpful to those that have sincere questions. People like you however are just plain ignorant or rude. Would I go on a hang gliding forum and start asking questions about how to hang glide, and just keep telling them I didn't want to take lessons? No, I'd go on the forum, ask where the lessons are, ask people what I thought about the hang gliders I was thinking about buying and thank them for it.

at least I didn't tell you to go tie firecrackers to your ass.

I can vouch for monkeyboy, he helped me get going on backrolls my first summer on the water. When I got stated on kiteboarding I had a lot of questions and found this forum to be very helpful. I took the advice people gave me and never felt any negativity. Go ahead and look up some of my first posts on this forum, you'll even see that monkeyboy provided good feedback.

Think twice before you start bashing people, if you think everybody is acting like a turd, stop and think who the common denominator is in your situation and re-think your attitude.

Because he's earned his damn degree, that's why. Monkeyboy had a field day with me when I first got on here last summer. But I took my lessons and proceeded conservatively (probably a little too conservatively, as I'm basically going through the whole process over again, but that's another story), and as a result, Monkeyboy's never gotten my lines tangled up in his, he's never had one of his favorite launches closed on account of something I did and he's never had to body drag out and save my sorry ass from itself (and he would do it if necessary). I can't speak for the guy, but my guess would be that he's giving you and Ben so much shit not simply because he's a snarky wise-ass, but because he's listening to you guys talk about doing things that are spectacularly unwise, and he's concerned for the welfare of his sport and his fellow kiters. So quit whining about how mean he is already. I mean really, don't take it so personally. If your skin's that thin, perhaps you're in the wrong neighborhood to begin with.

That's just your opinion
not everyone is like YOU
they don't HAVe to take ANYONES" advice (it's still a free country)
IF they DOn't ,so fuking what?
does not mean they are a ___________whatever YOU think they are

I'll ask again who put you in charge?

ok let's hear from the MONKEY MYNAHS

go for it Ben, although the Aero -2 was a fine kite in the smaller sizes ,the big ones are duds
And yes Hithard he spouts off to all the newbys ,so out of hand just ignore him
since he has been on this forum the whole feel good thing of new enthusiasm
has been a real challenge for anyone coming through the door .

WHile sometimes I laugh at the shit he diss's out ,most times I feel sorry for anyone asking a question about whats going on
You will notice that anyone who appears to know anything he treats a lot different .
Lastly NEVER ask anything on this forum unless you are part of the clique
or it makes money for some of the users.
no wonder almost all of the expierenced kiters have dropped off this bullshit forum

Hey now, I flew an aero2. It flew ok as all kites jellyfished back then. My issue was that when it fell in the water, it pretty much folded in half and said "fuck you buddy, your swimming"

Anywho, I think you'll find that if you looked at the original thread that almost everyone gave him snarky, bullshit laded "advice". It wasn't until the third page that Nak actually gave him the scoop on what he should do.

If someone asks a sincere beginner question then I chime in with an appropriate and nice and soft and cuddly response so nobody gets there fewling hurt. If everybody is skewering some guy then yeah, the mob mentality is too hard to resist.

So perhaps I should do the kite community a huge favor and author a nice big long post tittled : How to kiteboard if you don't want to take lessons? How well would that go over? Or perhaps.. "Any kite is fine for beginners, we learned on them"

People have learned without formal lessons, and yeah, many used to fly old kites that have laughable "safety" features compared to today's standards and we did alright. But most of the people in this situation had experienced kiters around them to help them out, watch their backs, and share valuable information. A crowded day at the sand bar back then was 20-30 kites on the water.

However, those days are now gone. Ushered in are crowds, liability concerns, beach closures, and stories of people getting seriously maimed. We are a fairly tight knit community that watches out for each other and polices our beaches. This has greatly benefited us through improved beach access, expansion of the sport, and keeping the gorge on the list as one of the top kite destinations in the country.

So we had a string of back to back "I can't take lessons" newbs. My personal opinion, and blowhard is right, everyone is entitled to them, is that giving information to people unwilling to take lessons is irresponsible. I don't care if you live somewhere else, unless you own a private island, your kiting on someones beach. I'm not going to play a part in it. oh here kid, the bullets go in this part of the gun..you'll figure the rest out, just be safe.

People gave you the most appropriate advice and you ignored it! So what should people do, give you the advice you want to hear? If I want information I ask people that know and I listen. I don't ask them and then tell myself, oh thats well and good and all but I don't think that applies to me.?

If you come to a forum asking advice and then play stupid (ergo: "there are no kite shops or schools near me") or just ignore peoples advice "I knew that was coming" (in response to first person telling you to take lessons) then yeah, i'm probably going to fuck with you for general amusement like a kitten playing with a ball of string. Is that the coolest thing I should do? no. Does it portray me as a dick to those that don't know me? probably. Is it sharing the stoke and fostering a sincere appreciation of new kiteboarders on the part of all kiteboarders? No particularly no. Do people that do know me probably find some of this shit funny? I have been told as much, yes. Was I the only (or the first) for that matter to do so?

After all, its the newbs that brought all the clouds and rain!!
