My wife and I are really excited about heading down to Oregon for a few days to do some camping and kiting. Im wondering if anyone can recommend a good beginner area on the Coast near Seaside/Astoria. I can launch/land and ride front/ back and toeside but have never done any kind of wave riding nor jumping so Im hoping to find a flatter area. If its too big I can always do some land kiting. We were thinking of Fort Stevens for camping. Is it a good place to camp/kite? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

On a sidenote....can anyone recommend a place to buy a used Mountain board? (I'm 175lbs) in that same area.

Go just south of Astoria, find Seaside and then drive out on the beach and go North. there's miles of beach up there, and the break is usually small. click on the 'spots' link up above (by Forecast). There's directions, etc.

there's also room on the beach to mountain board.

CKG,

I've got a MBS core I would sell you. It's at the Summerhouse B&B in Seaside. (BTW an excellent place to stay where you can walk to a flat water and wave launch launch).

PM me if you want to arrange to see it.... Very Happy

Doesn't look like its gonna happen. Every campground on the coast from Seattle to Mexico is booked up solid till the 4th. Crying or Very sad You people and your "Independence"! Oh well. It may not have been the best time to learn to kite with so many people on the beaches anyway

Is it possible to go camping at any of the state park campgrounds near the beach on NW or W coast during the middle July or are the sites usually jammed/ reserved already.
Heading out there for 2 weeks middle of July to catch some waves and need to know how crowded they are or should I reserve ahead of time Rolling Eyes

Fort Steven's use to have a bunch of tent sites set aside for first come first serve. Call them.
Also, the KOA accross the street from Fort Steven's may have room.

good luck
Mark

South Beach State Park is often full on weekends but you can usually talk them into letting you stay at an "overflow site". Some campgrounds are not on the reservation system, but are first come first serve, like Washburn State Park between Florence and Yachats.
