Slither - 12m flat kite.

Alright, I acknowledge that the Waroo's seem to have some magical powers, but this recent trend of small-kite snobbery has left a lot of kiters complaining about the wind, when they're really just under-rigged.

The readings looked decent last night and if Frenchmans was going....did anyone have a good session at SI last night?

Thinking coast for the weekend, but SI tonight. Let's have a showdown between your 12m Waroo and my 20m Torch!

Very Happy

Sleepy was out on his 7m Waroo, but he was on a glide, and weighs 135lbs soaking wet.

Dopey was on his 9m waroo, long lines and a skim board.

Sneezy was on a 12 waroo, I couldn't tell what board.

Doc was on his 15M Fuel, 23m lines med size board.

Happy was on a 16M Octane, 15M Lines, doing kite loops with his short board.

Grumpy, that fat bastard, was tryng to hold down his 25.5M machine...and Bashfull sat on the beach wondering what to rig....

I don't post often, and now I remember why. I just came on the site to find someone who was headed to the coast today, and thought I would report what was going last night.

I was on a 16m CB and had all the power I could handle except for a tenmminute lull...I hit the water at about 7:00. My buddy was able to get around on his CB 9 for about 30 minutes before I showed up.

The wind was a lilte weird, gusty and coming in at a weird angle. Tacking back to the beach I could barely see as I was going stright at the sun and the glare was horrible. The wind picked up around 8:00. I saw takashima towing somebody on a board behind him with his 12 or 14 CB as I was packing up and they were both planning so there was definately wind!

It is kind of funny how people think that a flat kite will power you up in any and all wind. A seemingly new kid asked me "what kite do you usually fly out here, I'm not getting anywhere?" I said, my 16 bow is my standard sauvie kite. "oh, I'm on my 7 meter waroo and I can't keep the kite in the air" Rolling Eyes

Hey Mark, I didn't know you were getting a Shockwave...how'd you like it?

I was borrowing. I think the shockwave would make a great surf kite. It has great depower and power up on demand. It also turns on a dime. However the bar has too much pressure for me.

kind of off topic, but i would think a 7m bow would fly in less wind than a 16m bow. I'm not saying this has anything to do with kiteboarding, just keeping the kite in the air. as far as my c kites go, i think my smaller kites fly in less wind but its very close. somewhere around 7mph seems to do the trick. Even more off topic, i think the most efficient airplane is one made from paper. maybe a paper kite would be the ultimate low-wind tool???

The "fickle mistress" came out again last night. . . Glad I was too tire to go from 4 days in a row, 35 miles of downwind glory down in RIVER TROLL land. Only topped off by a personal appearance from none other than the RIVER TROLL. Got to sail with him/it, and Barfly for my last session at the wreck on Monday night. Thx SUmmerhouse and the wind gods for making the start of my summer "kick ass!".

As for kite size. I still fly C kites and usually use my 19m out at SI.

Awe, c'mon, that 7 dwarfs report is good information! I just don't see why the guy with the 25M was grumpy...he should have been lit! Laughing

I rekon the coast will be rockin again today...Manzo's already pumping. I am thinking there should be sailability through the weekend although it may be lighter with more clouds in the morning.

Please don't avoid posting on my account...I am just emotionally attached to my big C kites!

The 7 dwarfs is a parable of kiting truth. As the great philosopher H. Simpson would say, "It's funny because it's true!"

With so many great choices in kites (c, flat, crazy foils with zippers) and boards (twin, surf, skim, etc) there are a lot of variables that make kite area less meaningful.

A couple of years ago you'd see 90 percent of SI kiters on a mid-size twin and a 14-18 kite. No more.

As Slither knows, one of the 7 dwarfs will complain about any conditions. I say let the guy who needs a 19 to feel adaquate enjoy his perception of power and feelings of superiority. Or let 1-kite-quiver guy rig his 9 and get elbow tendonitis. What's to lose?

One request: If I missed a session, even if it rocked like no other, feel free to tell me it sucked so I can feel good about myself, too.

Just ask yourself, what would Snow White do?

No really it truly sucked. Way too much East. Just because Tak could tow a man on surfboard (Ok that was fun) doesn't mean that the wind wasn't uber pukey.

Rating:
Monday - da shit
Tuesday - shit (but better than a poke in the eye - and sort of fun with the surfboard but not that much fun..)

ok ok, you didn't miss anything.

It kind=of=sorta sucked, no, it sucked, but I did have a good time.. so it coudn't have sucked that bad.

I think my point was it definately sucked a whole lot less than anything else I could have been doing, so in that respect, the suckage was definately acceptable.
