Mon May 31, 10 6:41 pm FYI Bad Prank @ The Hatch - parking lot. |

Dozens and dozens of rusty nails found all over the gravel parking lot. Joke or not, heads up if you launch out of there. _________________ Sent from phone, please excuse typos.

That'll teach those windboarders or whatever they're called to stop cutting gill nets...
What a ridiculous thing to do. I don't remember the part of the treaty where it allows assholism. |

I think Andrew Jackson forever ensured the Indians rights to act like assholes when he engineered the Indian Removal Act that congress passed in 1830, thereby negating and dissolving all prior agreed upon treaties. |

Nails: The story checks out. I spoke with a state parks guy (Less) who was there. He said that he picked up 2 full buckets of rusty nails that were bent. He is pretty kean on taking care of the place. He even put down some nice beauty bark on the first parking area - much more friendly for kite pumpage. I thanked him for his service. I wouldn't recommend going there for awhile unless you are coming from Stevenson. The roads are blocked off and you have to go through White Salmon, BZ Corner then back down to Indian Fishing Village. Pain in the arse. Also, I've launched experienced kiters there and it's pretty sketch.
PDXmonkeyboy - Indians & politics....well you won't like what I have to say about that. Obviously how native americans were treated is pretty bad. However that does not give any human being the right to be an asshole & ruin things or be violent etc. They have just as much opportunity as the next person to do well for themselves with even more benefits plus no taxes, fishing the mouth of rivers, killing whales, exploiting gambling with no shared revenue. I think they use the same highways as we do, have the same fireman help them out and all the little goodies that you and I pay for - get over it. Sick of politically correct. My family died in wars, My family fled Germany because of Nazi's, my childhood friends endured racism and I've endured sexism & reverse discrimination. You either have the hootspa to move on or you just cry in your milk(or jack daniels) and be a loser. Maybe if people stopped beating the "poor me" drum - we could all move on and we could all live more peacefully -
Cry me a river,
M.
PS. And how do you know an Indian did that anyway? That's a pretty big finger of blame. Could've been anyone...just sayin. _________________ Be kind to Kooks |

Just for the record, I didn't point the finger at the tribes someone else did. My post was meant to diminish racism not encourage it. Seems to have struck a chord with you however as you too insinuate it was them. As for Indians having the same opportunities as everyone else, I encourage you to visit an indian reservation sometime and then make that decision. I'm the very last one to hold a pitty party for anyone. My grandmother-in law's entire family was exterminated by the Nazis. She came home from school one day and they were gone, she never heard From them or saw them again. Pretty heavy shit for a 14yo.
How that relates to nails in the parking area I don't know. In other news the hatchery is repaving their entire acess road and that will also entail regrading of the launch area and filling all the big holes that make huge puddles |

Forrest commented on gill nets & treaty's (hence the finger)..you wrote about Andrew Jackson. I don't know why either was written about. Because it has nothing to do with nails. Maybe I misunderstood the grey area of all that. Dunno, but I'm overly opiniated anyway-but a good citizen. Watcha gonna do? Better than being a lemming I guess. In the end we are all Americans at this point. There is a sticker in Seattle at my friends shop. It says "Unless your mother was born here, you will always be a tourist". Kinda rings true. Peace brotha.
I'm just happy that Less, the hatch "parks guy" is doing his job and he cares.
C U on the beach,

Racism and Politics aside...
Just had a great solo session (launched and landed) at the Hatch on a 10m. When I met Less, I will be buying him a beer. The beauty bark is... well, beautiful to rig on.

I'm allowed to speculate. Someone cutting gill nets = angry gill net fisherman thinking its the windsurfers = nails in the parking lot.
Having the right to be an asshole doesn't mean you should be one. No one will work with you to find solutions to your problems.
I don't see how any of this is "racism" though. We're talking about gill net fishermen who happen to be Indian. |

It is speculation - and it makes sense. However we don't know for sure. Could have been a number of people I suppose. Monkey - where were you the night of May 30th at 9:30 pm??
Since when have people been cutting gill nets? Have there been many of them? Is there any particular reason why windsurfers would want to cut them?
BTW - only on nwkite will a bucket full of rusty nails lead to nazis exterminating someone's inlaws. Random how threads tend to drift.

I represented the CGKA at a meeting with the Inter-Tribal Fisheries Council. Basically the windsurfers got blamed for all the cutting of gill nets. Kiteboarders were lumped in with the windsufers. We tried to suggest some solutions, education and cooperation, but really they didn't listen and didn't want to cooperate. They just want the recreationalist to go away. |

I dont know, This "buttersmoothcarver" guy sounds kinda shady,...I bet he pulled up to the hatch late one night and dumped nails all over the parking lot,..probaly got em off a sailboat or something. I bet "buttersmooth" even sneaks around at night cutting all the gill nets loose. I even found a fork and a couple of beer cans laying in the grass at the event site. |

If you want to kite at the hatch just go upwind from the sandbar or our new launch the marina! The launch at the hatch is very technical and you only get one chance. If you screw it up then you fuck it up for everyone behind you! A failed launch can add 10-15 minutes for the next person waiting on your dumbass to get out of the way (i.e. relaunch, board retrieval, swim). Also is a great way to piss off the windsurfers. |
