post On the issue about the depower I think if you need more than the 14 some odd inches of throw your rigged too big. I really only use the depower on the beach so it is easier to walk, with the bar closer to you. Yeah I said it . A little green still on the unhooked riding but I think the coolest chicken bone/donkey dick setup I've seen was Solkiters. He has a short one connected directly to the spreader bar. I've been meaning to modify my setup the same way. Another thing to know with slingy bars IMO the best place to hook your leash (in most cases) is to the depower rope pull knob. If you lose your bar it will 100% depower your kite but, your kite will still be flying. Two mods you should do for this though are 1) melt 1/4 inch of rope behind the pull knob to aid the two small screws. 2) shit can the yellow stopper bar on the depower rope as if left on it will lead to a kitemare when it is forced up the line until your bar is locked against the chicken loop. |

Thanks for the tip Shay! People have told me about that one before but somehow I guess I wasn't listening clear enough to understand.
Perry, I connect my leash to the side of the depower rope (the one that doesn't actualy move). I guess it's a suiide set up but I'm flying Revs so it's not all that suicidal. I would caution those with certain kites to leash up the depower rope as some (t2's) have a little stopper ball on the depower rope (not sure why). But if you let go of the bar the leash will pull all the way and move the stopper ball on the rope. When you finally get relaunched again you'll find you can only move he bar a couple inches cause it jams against the stoper
anyways, good post! I think it's cool that a company takes a little time to provide some help to it's kiters. Pkh, love the double ball boner prevention idea! |

Thanks for the responses. SS has great customer service and deserves credit for being so available.
One small quibble on the half hitch, it certainly works well and is easy to learn. But it is harder to use than bungees. The SS guy in the video does 4 half hitches and still has line left over to deal with. I like easy and most kite companies use bungees for this reason. No mess no fuss. Everybody from Best to Naish uses 'em. |
