Tue May 25, 10 8:53 pm kiting in/around SF Bay - anyone? |
|
|
Will be in close proximity to Golden Gate bridge for Memorial Day weekend. Looking to find some kiting options within 20 mile radius...anyone know of good spots and local scene. Would prefer to hook up with some locals to get the lowdown on currents, best wind direction, etc. Do they have a local kite forum like nwkite? Thanks |

Also do a search on this forum; seems like I've answered this question (with links) a time or two before.
Monkeyboy, you're slacking...
Just be warned that Crissy Field is not a forgiving place - get the local scoop (including tides) and use good judgement. Third Ave is much more safe and reliable (and crowded). We've had unstable weather that recently wreaked havoc on Ocean Beach kiters and sailors, kept the Coast Guard quite busy. |

I can help you out as I normally live in Portland, but we are living in NorCal until November. I kite Crissy, Alameda, 3rd Avenue, Sherman Island and Ocean Beach. Send me an email when you are around and I can let you know what area will be good and possibly meet you at a spot. I plan on kiting Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon this week.
Take care,

Brought your big stuff with you I see.
I normally kite Third but broke my collarbone last week. Have noticed the weather here lately is not normal. Very gusty, lots of cumulonimbus clouds (saw lightning last Wednesday, the day I crashed my bike in the unexpected rain shower - it was sunny when we left). Heard OB was CRAZY on Sunday! There should be a marine layer backed up against the coast and sunny and clear over the bay, and a nice fat NW pressure gradient between HMB and the east bay, creating steady mid-20's. In fact it's supposed to be like that all the time! |
