| alright I think I have decided to go with new gear after I take a few lessons, I think it is worth the risk of crashing it to know exactly what I am getting and know I will not have to worry about issues with the kite, only issues with my flying haha. Ive been practicing with a trainer kite and am getting pretty good no more crashes unless I lose my wind. So now I have another discussion to start, what size board would you guys reccomend ? Im 6'1" and 210. I cant afford to buy multiple boards or kites right now so I need a good beginer board that doesnt limit me too much. |

As far as a good board for a beginner - LF Proof 151. I am in the minority when it comes to recommending a bigger board. But I learned on a very similar board and loved it.
Most People on the forum will say don't buy something so big cus you will out grow it. Yes, you will outgrow it. Someone your size would likely be riding something around 139 or so.
But you can pick up a LF Proof used for fairly cheap. Use it, learn on it and then sell it mid-way through the season. You shouldn't lose too much cash.
The proof is going to make your learning curve easier. It is very stable, has a lot of float, and you can dig in deep to deal with the gusts. That and they are fairly inexpensive to begin with.
You could also go with a LF WLF 145 and then when you outgrow it - you can simply use it for a lightwind board. I have one of these as a light wind board and really love it. You can also find used WLFs for a fairly cheap price.

Wait till you take your lesson. Your instructor will recommend a good sized board for you after they see you ride. You may be lucky and be gifted at kiting and be able to start on a smaller board after your lesson than what is normal.
I bought my board before the lesson. Big mistake.

a good size for your weight would be something 138+ by 40+ size. Some smaller boards are designed for bigger riders and are great like the north sky pro ect.. Rides like a big board but advantage of a small board. Alot really depends on board shape and construction and its ability to plane and go upwind.
You can buy some boards for really cheap but outgrow them very quickly (LF proof ) or spend a few more and get a board to grow into and keep a long time.
Figure out how much you want to spend then look around at boards in that price range.
