Martin - you may want to look into buying a set of kites out here. The prices are significantly lower (less taxes - no VAT out here - for now at least). Then you can take them back with you and sell them for more than what you paid for.
Talk with someone at Big Winds or 2nd Wind - they can hook you up. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

@moto
I have considered this but,
1- I'm already buying a new camera, a 2010 Best bar and maybe a kiteboard and snowboard boots. (could use a tip on where to get the 2010 Best bar)
2- At the moment I have all the kites I need. (if there is such a thing)
3- I'm already really low on cash as it is.
But your right.
This whole thing is part of an unexpected company paid trip.
The only reason I can afford the added 2 weeks of kiteboarding is because of the euro/dollar + tax thing so don't worry, I'm already taking full advantige of that. Last edited by Martin_6453 on Fri Apr 30, 10 9:08 am; edited 1 time in total |

If you bring the 14, just pack some ankle weights and you'll be money! |

I had already read that somewhere about the current working for you instead of against you.
On the one hand I like the idea, but how does that work when you lose your board?
I am able to bodydrag upwind and the current must make that easier, but I asume your board gets dragged away from you a lot faster? |

its not that bad really. The only time its really a problem is when you crash and have a complete cluster fuck like a line break or kite invert and you can't body drag to your board.
If that happens, yell to someone to grab your board. Most people will pick up a floating board if that see it and bring it back to shore. The current is fast, but its not like epic fast (in most places). |

Martin_6453, I'm the same size as you. my 11m is my money kite in the gorge. There are days I need a 14m, and days I need a 7m. If you want the absolute best chance of riding the most days, bring the 14m. If you want the best chance of riding the most FUN days, bring the 7m. If your travels are like mine, then you'll choose the wrong one whatever you do.
I'll make you a deal; I'll show you the spots in the Gorge if you show me the spots near Amsterdam! |

It's going to be tight but I gues I have no choice.
I'd like to kite at your coastline as well and from what I can see in the windfinder statistics, the avarage change of good wind is pretty slim.
Looks like your pretty lucky to have the Gorge
I just now managed to stuff my 7m in my carry on bag. (I'll leave the bar in my kitebag and my harness minus spreaderbar around my waist)
It does not leave much room for anything else but who needs material possessions anyway. |

Coast isn't quite firing yet, but depending where you go there's plenty of consistently 20+ spots. The closest to Portland is Manzanita. It turns on in early afternoon usually and ramps up FAST, going from nothing to 25+ in under an hour sometimes. It usually peaks between 2-3pm and holds until 5-6pm. After that it starts to die off slowly and get flukier. Riding South of town is your best bet here for smoother wind.
I don't see too many people using their 14m kites in the Gorge (even heavier guys). You might use it late in the day or on weird days/in weird spots. If you had a 12m that'd probably be about as big as you'd wanna go for most Gorge days. I mostly use my 6, 8, 10m kites but I weigh less than you. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

(asuming your serieus)
Best Kitespots near Adam are "Wijk aan Zee" and "IJmuiden"
If there is wind Í'm there and your welkome to tag along.
Best spots for other things in Adam? .... don't worry, just follow your nose.
You won't have to walk for longer than 2 minutes
(and the mayonaise on French fries thing ... it's true) |

As for your board floating on down the river - you may want to look into some ankle straps. They help yer board stay in place. You can find them on the inexpensive side. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

Absolutely! I travel for a living, and Amsterdam is one of our hubs. I've got a 48 hour layover there on May 31st I think... You'll probably still be in the gorge? Can I find my way to the spots with public transportation? We stay relatively near downtown. |

As for public transportation I would suggest "Zandvoort aan zee"
It is a direct 30 minute train connection from Adam central, that practiclly stops right on the beach.
Ask or Google for the name "the spot" that's the local kiteboard beach club.
www.hanglos.nl is the main dutch kiteboard site.
It's ok to ask questions in english.
Look for the "voeg forumtopic toe" (ad topic) button.
My return flight is on the 30th and after a 14 hour flight I don't think I'll join you on the 31th, but it sounds like another time could also be an option. |

If any of you guys are locals to the Hood River area, you should really check out this awesome new webseries I'm working with called Clean Break. Basically the show's two hosts and the crew travel the country highlighting certain action water sports and local hotspots along the way. The series is looking for a local guide to show people what makes their hometown incredible. They're looking for fun, informed guides who are ready to share knowledge about Hood River with the crew. The sport featured during this stop will be windsurfing. Don't worry- the local guides won't need to be good at windsurfing (though it can't hurt!). All you need to do is submit a 2-3 minute video to their youtube page at http://www.youtube.com/hydroexperience. Hit up their facebook page to get more info at http://bit.ly/CleanBreak.
Also wanted to give you guys a heads up that the show will highlight kiteboarding in San Diego. The deadline for Local Guide submissions for SD is May 10, but you can also apply to be a kiteboarding expert. Let me know what you guys think and I can see what I can make happen. |
