I am doing a quick trip to Mexico with only a carryon bag. Is a Nitrous Harness with bar OK for carryon? Only wonder if the bar would cause problems with TSA.

Thanks,

I doubt it'll be a problem, they are lookin for sharp things, guns, bombs, and drugs.

But if you do wear it be sure to hook on your leash too! Smile

I mean don't hold me to it, but I've traveled with a harness as a carry on probably about 10-12 times no problem several times with kite, bar and lines too...

...that said people bring really weird stuff on the planes over here...

3 oz containers - must be in a clear 1 qt ziplock (pulled out for scanning)

"Do you have any liquids?"

- no, none

"Whats this bottle of Tequilla"

- oh shit
(duty free from mexico - not so free for the connecting flight...)

Thanks for the comebacks, spreaderbars could be a little intimidating to some.

Hey, I usually take the leash and spreader bar off my harness and put those in my checked bag and then I wrap my harness around my carry-on backpack. I have yet to have a problem with TSA. I have even sent my harness through the scanner alone and have had no issues. Maybe take the knife out if there is one in there though. Shocked

Have had my bags searched because of harness when it goes through xray, but then when you tell them what its for they think its cool and start asking about kiting.

Hey,

I have a Dakine Heli Pack and usually put my bars in it for carry on. I use a "beaner" and clip my spreader bar to outside of the pack so it is visible & easier to deal with when you shove it in the overhead. The waist harness: wearing it is kind of wierd and you look suspect and attract attention. I wrap & clip it around my back pack - easier for TSA to deal with, examine etc. Sometime you just need to explain what it is used for then they think you are so rad. Having a kiteboard magaize with a picture of what its used for is very helpful.

The last time I did an international trip I went extra early, showed the TSA manager the gear beforehand to decide whether to do a checked bag or not. Well, actually I always check a bag, I just wanted to decrease the weight to avoid fees.

I've done this backpack thing in Atlanta, Jamaica, LAX, SLC, PDX, Cabo, La Paz, Dallas, Brownsville & Corpus Christi. No Problemo. FYI- smaller airports like brownsville hassle you more because they have nothing better to do.

Extra time is key.

Have fun!

M. Wink

Don't bring the kite bar in your carry on. Had a 9m complete with bar in my carry-on going to Australia and the bar caught thier attention and wasted a lot of time explaining what it was and how it could not be filled with anything or used as a weapon. Best to check it.

I wore my 5/4 wetsuit on a flight to hawaii to save weight. You should wear your whole setup and that way when you hit the ground your ready for action.

Was it still nice and dirty and RIPE from a season of kiting?? Surprised That way when you get hot on the airplane and the suit warms up it starts to get nice and stinky so the people next to you move and leave the window seat for you.. Awsome idea!!!

It really worked out well for sure. The other benefit is that I didn't have to get up to pee.
