--OPPS This was supposed to go under the Hefner section. Prepare to be underwhelmed. The photos aren't so hot but here is Kiting outta Hefner for ya.
Hey All,
While I wouldn't write the gorge off for the summer, OK did deliver a bit more than I expected. Winds were sorta up and down but I was told this was more up and down than usual. Met some cool locals (kiters are cool pretty much wherever you go). Overall had a pretty good time.
A little underpowered 9m Kiting. My first session back since September or so. Nothing fantastic as way of my photos, but here are a few of the area in case you find yourself in OK. Hefner is right outta OK City but according to the locals some of the other lakes blow as well.
Oh and apparently it is true what they say--if you don't like the weather here just wait ten minutes cause it will have changed 5x... Crazy rain storms came through that drenched everything in a matter of minutes--then passed and the sun came out. Was that way off and on all afternoon.

Some of those shots looked like the precurser to a tornado. I am no expert, but isn't Oklahoma dead in the center of Tornado Alley, and isn't late April prime time for funnel clouds? Way to charge it!!

Yup and the wind can spike so fast. Light switch shit! Lots of storm fronts moving through and can get quite nasty. So be on your toes this time of year. |
Absolutely, we had 88MPH winds come through the a day and a half ago and there was a tornado watch. makes it exciting! But yeah when I was heading out I was definitely looking to make sure there were other kiters out and then ready to pull the safety right away...
