Hey Guys,

First off, we are not trying to argue or fight with anyone. Simple fact is that Airtime is trying to copy our product, uses our name on their site and in their blogs, and at the end of the day is offering a product that will not work for kiters. I guess they have the right to do what they want but we have a right to respond, no?

Secondly, and this is almost not worth mentioning, but it is easy to make judgements about people when you don't know them. Based on my experience, most kiters I have met are pretty cool people. I am sure the guys at Airtime are good guys....and I would hope that the people that deal with us, and know us a bit, would say the same thing. Enough said.

Finally, Moto, thanks for your comments here. Sorry that your posting got a bit sidetracked from the original message. Thanks again.

KiteFix.

I think the kitefix stuff is a great idea for sure and i don't think that people are trying to diss you or your products it's just that this is NWkite and the airtime building is like a block from the sandbar and they have been keeping us out on the water for almost a decade now.
As far as copying stuff, that kinda sucks but at the same time, is somewhat to be expected in this industry seeing as there is only so many ways to fix a kite. I'm sure there are other companies that sell u stick valves as well and I'm pretty sure that was there invention.
Anywho, I think people are also getting grumpy because we are now on our 15th straight day of rain. if it doesn't stop fucking raining soon I'm going to buy a shotgun, a bunch of ammo and see if I can make the evening news

My new product is called "SessionFix" ! For ONLY $19.95 you get a handful of sand to pack in your ears and a bucket of water to dump on your head.

Add heat from your own furnace and in no time you'll forget your living in a cold, windless, rain-hole! Thumb's Up Crying or Very sad

From what I have heard over the years is that the glue called "Pattex" is the gold standard for bladder and kite fabric repair. Unfortunately, it can not be bought in the USA or even shipped here from its source, Germany.

I wonder if the glue that you get with the Kitefix kit is Pattex. I think that Flysurfer used to have this glue in their repair kits, but only in Germany.

Someone at La Ventana had some a few years ago, brought from Europe, and was doing quick and solid repairs.

The stuff must be very toxic or flammable. I should look up the MSDS sheet for it.

Anyone have an update on the possibility of getting some of this glue in the USA or Canada?

tear aid works great on bladders. Who the hell would want to glue their kites back together?

Monkey, glueing your kite back together is just an option. Check out the videos kitefix posted on their webpage - there are a lot of demonstrations as to how well their system works.

All is good.

I've already used your product to repair a leading edge and it is holding up great. After I got to try out my kite and see how the repair held up I wanted to post up and let others know about their options on repairing their kites.

And I do think people are more agitated than normal on this forum - we have had sh*t for wind! I gotta ride - SOON!! Or else I'm going to spontaniously combust Mad

Kitefix wrote:
Well it is clear that Airtime finally realizes that kiters want to have the option to repair their kites themselves. After years of them talking about the only way to fix a kite is to sew it, they finally gave in. Good news for kiters! Thank you Airtime!

Only problem now is that they are promoting a product that will not work for you. Yes, the core of our KiteFix product is our GluFix and FiberFix products (which are conveniently referenced on the Airtime website for all to see).

GluFix is not a white label version of Seamgrip. Don't believe us, go to the store and find out. GluFix is formulated to dry fast, be applied easily and quickly, resist UV and be water proof. It has been made for Kites and seven years of field testing with kiters around the world should be proof enough.

Seamgrip, is extremely runny and takes forever to dry (minimum 8-12 hours and possibly more depending on the humidity). It is a good product but not one for repairing kites.

Is KiteFix a viable option for permanently repairing kites? Even leading edges? Check out our new blow out video and decide for yourself:

If you think you are saving money by purchasing a kit from Airtime think again. They don't even stand behind their own product.

Now regarding quality of the repair, you judge for yourself...we have plenty of pictures on our website and blog as well as on our Picassa site to show how a repair should be done. Of course if you put white Drywall tape on a blue kite it is going to look like crap. That is why we have multi-color tapes.

KiteFix Blog: http://www.kitefix.com/blog/
KiteFix Picassa: http://picasaweb.google.ca/kitefix

Sure, anyone can make a repair look like crap. I have seen my share of stitching repairs that didn't look so hot either. Either way you go, DYI or sewing, the repair can be botched by the person doing the repair. That is also why we provide tutorial videos, blogs and detailed instructions (which Airtime copied for their kit) to help users get it right. It's not rocket science but you do have to read the instructions.

Finally, I will end this rant by saying that it is disappointing that in an industry that is so small, companies would find it necessary to bash others within the industry. We have always said that we don't care which way people go for their kite repairs. We made that point in a blog last year titled "Stitch or KiteFix". But we do think that kiters should have the choice which is why we work hard to offer a quality product. Don't think that Airtime is trying to bash us, look at the references to our product and company on their blog and on their website. Don't support this type of negative promotion, it is not helpful to anyone.

I welcome the opportunity to further discuss our product, company, partners and competition with anyone that is interested. We tend not to pimp our product on forums but I will reply here if requested. Or you can email me directly.

...or if you want to save even more money, come to your local lumber yard and pick up your DIY supplies for all your MESSY kite repairs. We have the products, you slop it together. BTW, I'll provide some food coloring to make the drywall tape look REAL COOL!! Laughing

Regardless of personal preference on how to fix a kite kudo's to Kitefix for a great website, some fun videos, and all around good marketing effort!

In most business its 50% product and 50% marketing and clearly Kitefix is getting the second part right. Wink
