Yeah, sucks. But I have read too many stories starting with "All my gear was stolen out of my car..."
Is it that hard to not leave your expensive stuff in your car?! It continues to amaze me how many people are surprised to find out that their expensive gear was stolen out of the back of their car, or sometimes even pickup beds .
If you are at the beach take all of your kites out of your car and keep them within eyesight while you are on the water. If you get home, take your kites out of your car and keep them in your house. It's not difficult to keep you shit form being stolen. |

haha, obviously this isn't always an option. i park at the event site and ride upwind of wells island. downwinders on the coast... etc.
sorry Carl! can't believe they would be that bold to break three windows. it's not like you are in a rural area, that's crazy! |

Yeah Spike, with comment like that instead of a "sick Carl" your going to get a "hot carl."
I disagree with your idea of keeping all you kites within eye sight while your kiting. . .but there is always more than one way to "skin a cat". I think it is best just to keep one's gear out of sight, within a locked car when kiting. Keeping it in the car overnight is a different story. . .depends on location etc etc
Sorry to hear about the break in CrazyC |

Excepting the "take gear to the beach and watch over it"... Taking all my stuff out of my car (and rocketbox) each night is a must here in Tacoma WA. 5 smash-ins in 3 years to my wife and I, and all of us in the neighborhood believe it's the same assholes checking their "route" every 6-8 months.
I believe it's very important to leave the interior of your car looking like you own nothing of value. And I've known friends in Seattle that leave their windows cracked open, and doors un-locked just to avoid the broken glass.
Sorry for your loss Carl, we will all be watching CL in PTLD & SEA for yoor stuff. I can't imagine how these freaks fence this stuff. _________________ CGKA Member

i hear that. i think that a lot of times it is difficult to keep your stuff from being stolen though.. lot of gear in this sport, hard to hide three people's gear packed in one car for a coast/gorge trip |

HUH?
I ride those kites,,also, and some new ones are on the way ,
that's good advice about hiding yer shit but a little too late ,I'm afraid ,
After many years of leaving all my shit in my rig out in the woods along side the road while I was over the bank ,I never lost a thing ,
lucky I suppose
I always left the door open ,if not raining
Things are replacable,, but riding home in the rain with the window out
would really suck |

I have a buddy who is a paragliding instructor out in the gorge. He's a great instructor, an asset to the sport, and living the dream, but he doesn't make a lot of money.
For a long time he only had a beat up old truck with no canopy. He used to haul around about $15-20K worth of student wings, harnesses, etc, in the open bed of that truck and he'd leave it all unattended for hours at a time in all kinds of places.
His secret? He stuffed all the gear in to those big black plastic "lawn and leaf" bags, and he'd also throw a couple of crushed beer cans and a wadded up paper bag on top of it all. It just looked like so much trash. Never got touched. _________________ Lets FLY |

Good idea. Probably wouldn't hurt to have NRA stickers on the back along with a shotgun rack. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

A 4M Ocean Rise shouldn't be too hard to find - but lets not go on a witch hunt. No one wants blowhard to get his ass kicked - (well unless he's the one who stole the kite )
Seriously - keep an eye out on CL, ebay, or anywhere else you think some jack ass would try and offload a 4M. Keep an eye up in Seattle and all other surrounding areas. This guy needs to get caught!!! _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |
