Anybody out there ride a Liquid Force WLF for their light wind board. There are some screaming deals out there.

WLF is the shizzz. Not only was it my favorite board to teach on back in the day at REAL, but both sizes make for ridiculous lightwind or big guy wakestyle boards. With boots you can really use the width to your advantage.

Boots or no boots it's a crazy efficient shape.

Moto has a 145 (I think). That board is awesome!....rides just like a freestyle board given the size. He was trying to sell it once, so you might want to hit him up.

I never thought about putting boots on it, but now that you mention it..... Very Happy

Depends on how much you weigh and how light you wanna go. Probably if you're under 160lbs the 140cm might work fine. Or if you wanna be able to ride it not only in light conditions than 140 may be better. Otherwise 145 is still real fun even though it's bigger. Either board will be sweet though, just pick for your application and weight.

Check out the following thread it goes over the differences between 140 and 145:

http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-8573.html&highlight=145

I went with the 145 and really loved it. Has a really, really good freestyle feel to it. Very soft landings.

I haven't tried the 140 - but I'm 185 pounds and really glad I went with the 145.

Not to get into a brand war, but how does this board compare to the SS Misfit? I've got the larger one for my light wind board but have heard great things about the WLF's too. Anybody rode both?

I used to have the Misfit 146 which was a killer lightwind board and very fast, but after getting caught out on it in stronger winds or stuffing the nose while heading back downwind, I opted to experiment with some other board models.

The WLF 140 was my answer, not as fast, but playing in the swell and landing some sizeable airs without jarring my knees turned out to be just what I was looking for.

The Misfits tend to be a bit stiffer of a board and have a bit more of a squared off tip/tail which gives them good pop and upwind angle, but sacrifices a bit on the turning and playfulness. I had switched my board over to smaller 1" fins to loosen up the ride and make it a bit more forgiving. Definitely something to play around with if you get the Misfit.

We will have a demo WLF140 at 2nd Wind by mid April if you are still interested in the board and want to take one for a demo ride.

That's awesome Pepi, thanks for the info! Just had surgery yesterday but 29 days from now when I'm cleared for kiting I'll absolutely take you up on the demo!!!Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Out of curiosity, and please don't answer if you're not comfortable, but what's your favorite light wind board and why? I'm 6'4 210lbs and my "Go-to" board is the '09 Lunacy 135 which literally transformed my abilities last year from a beginner to intermediate almost overnight, but I'm looking for a great lightwind board now as well.

Thanks again Pepi!!!

My lightwind toy is actually a Oxbow 5'10" x 20.75" Fish (strapless). I refoiled the side fins a bit so that they were not super assymetrical and a bit flexier at the tip. The fatness of the board gets me going in the lightwinds and keeps me going while the tweezer-buts are all still out playing (I am 210lbs). The refoiled fins allow the board to loosen up a bit and let me sink the rail a bit harder when playing in the swell and I feel it gives the board a bit more speed in the lighter wind.
Strapless is a must as it allows me to put my feet in the sweet spot for varying wind conditions or for going upwind/downwind.

For lightwind twin tip riding, the WLF with LUX straps is my 'go to' board (also nice for downwinders in case the wind gets light, and is still safe to ride when it picks up).

Vancougar, I'm the same size as you and I rode the WLF 145 all last year as my only board. Goes pretty well in light wind, but not a super-light wind board for guys our size. I think surfboard is the call for that like Pepi said. Surprised you loved the Lunacy 135. I rode the Thorn 137 the year before and it felt a little small. Had to be pretty lit all the time on it I thought. The WLF is a lot more comfortable and had more range for me for cruising around. Be nice to have something a little smaller and narrower for 7m days though. I was looking at the Misfit 142 myself. Might have to demo one this year.

Thanks Bruce, that's good info. I love the Lunacy because it's got a lot of width and frankly rides a lot larger than it is in my opinion while giving a ton of pop and explosiveness. Y

ou make a good point that you have to be pretty powered to ride it though. It's my go to Board for my 7,9 and 11meter kits but I ride a LF Sixer surfboard in really light conditions. The WLF sounds like it might be the ticket for in between.
