There's a guy down here at Third Ave (SF Bay) that sells them for ~$90 and they're pretty popular. My Mom is a seamstress (in Hood River) and I've been trying to get her to make one for me but she's been too busy (she does great work!). They are awesome for spring and fall days! Lots of family crowd around so no Rooster approach.
I'll have to find some of that fashionable material in broadbandito pics... reminds me of that Simpson's episode!

I gotta say too, the "clothing optional" section should be pushed further East. It totally sucks that the best beach on the river east of PDX, often the only beach, be reserved for a very few people. A lot of families would like to go there, and whatever you say it's Bullshit to expose little kids to that.
Dude that's the truth. We're missing the boat allowing the BEST beach for families in the entire gorge (in my opinion) to be off limits because there's a bunch of sketchy stuff going on in the bushes. I know I'd like to take my 8 year old down there to enjoy the water and wildlife, but unfortunately those currently enjoying it are doing so in a manner that alienates the other 99.9% of the population.
How such a beautiful place can be run exclusively for those in the extreme minority is beyond me. And for all of the bitching about taxes, unions and everything else, this seems to me to be an easy "no brainer" for the government to do the right thing and open what could be a very profitable recreational area very near Portland metro to the public.
I don't know the particulars on how this all came to be, I'm sure that some of you long time locals could enlighten us, but I'd love to hear about it as well as what the options may be in the future.

Couple of things:
The sh*t that goes on in the bushes is pretty far and few between. I have spent plenty of time in the nudey section of the beach. Most of that crap goes on in the farthest section where the homosexuals hang out - and even then its a rarity. So if you are considering bringing your family - yes, you will have to worry about the schlong. But I seriously doubt you will have to worry about anything else - assuming you stay away from the section that is mainly populatated by the homosexuals. No I am not talking trash about gays - its been my observation - been hanging out at SI for the past six years and I have never seen anything going on where the heterosexuals hang out - I have seen some pretty interesting stuff going on in the gay section though.
Nak - as far as your "bullshit" comment goes. Yes, and no man. It is a cultural thing fer ser. In some cultures, namely france, nudity is a norm. I have a close friend of mine who grew up in this culture - no doors on bathrooms, nude beaches, naked bodies from the earliest age was the norm. So when he moved to PDX he wanted his kids to have a similar experience. his kids are now 7 and 9 - and they have been going to SI for a lot of years in the naked section. They are developing just fine - except one is obsesses with sausages - keeps drawing them all the time - OK I'm playing, the kid doesn't draw sausages - but it would be pretty funny if he did. Anyways, in a long winded way I am saying if you are exposed to nudity from a young age its no big deal. Plenty of cultures throughout history have done this. However, to bring your 12 year old daughter a nude beach for the first time - could be pretty damn traumatic. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights!

I would assume so - seeings how its a nudey beach and people swim naked and hang out in their boats naked. Don't see why you couldn't kite naked. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights!

Sweet!!! My dream of flying naked will be fullfilled. Or maybe I'll just wear a reinforced bananna hammock in case of water impact.

Only one reason that I can think of....but you can solve that annoying little problem with one of these, sold at any plumbing supply store.

2 or 3 summers ago I saw someone windsurfing naked at SI, don't know if it was a man or a woman, all I saw were two giant hams and a pfd.

I can't top any of that.
I bought one of these swim parkas a few years back. Fur lined pretty cozy but not cheap. Cheaper than $90 though. Look around, you can find them for $50 or so.
