I wish someone would come out today and keep me company...

It's going to be so butterlicious, but lonely... Sad Cool

P.S. There are some nasty sunken trees with pungee branches sticking up that are barely submerged at high tide so be careful in the jumpatorium. Stick your landings and if you don't, crash SHALLOW! Shocked

It's actually the Lagoon...Ponds are something different. But when you park at Lot D and walk out east to the Lagoon, you pass by the inside that's the most buttery and wind protected on the surface.

It's all a lot shallower than one might think as the tide drops, but the bottom is usually really soft. I dragged a couple of the smaller pungees out but the big one is still there. Still plenty of room though. With the wind so steady, strong and east, you can get way down in there with no shadows!

Longview Leon was there killin it yesterday!

Thumb's Up

Yeah It is OK for newbies in my opinion b/c the place is shallow and sheltered.
I havent seen much in the water but some say a few branches here and there.
The wind now usually blows into the ponds on East winds it will blow you into the shallow ponds if shit hits the fan. You may want to ask Chooch, Nak , Gman or some of coast crew b/c I just tend to go when they say its on, so they are the wind gurus for that area/
The important thing is to stay out of main mouth of river so you dont get blown into the bar and pacific. This would be a not fun situation.
Hope this helps.

I've only ever kited easterlies there. I check the Colombia River Bar Sensor for an indication on how it's doing. Low tide there's a lot of sand, you have to kite further out. It's safest on an incoming tide. Today & this weekend look good. Low tide is around 10 AM, High is around 4 PM. If you get swept out into the bar on an outgoing tide, you'll be smashed into the jetty & killed unless the Coast Guard can rescue you first... No shit. Shocked Stay out of the river there until you're really familiar with the area. Stick to the lagoon itself. "Beware the moors." Very Happy Have fun!

Wind directions:

East is best, and NE works but gets shadowy deep in the lagoon. I guess it works with westerly directions too but I've never tried it.

The Young's Bay sensor has been down forever. The airport sensor reads light and it's usually bigger kiteable if it's reading 8-10.

Careful driving on the beach there cause the tide comes right up to the beach grass.

You can kite on the channel side but do be very careful of the strong outgoing tide.

Now that this thread has all the info...I hope nobody minds if I change the title to Jetty Lagoon...for accuracy sake. Very Happy

Yeah, there are some nasty nasty currents out there. I would highly advise ditching and swimming if you have a mechanical failure and the tide is taking you for a ride.

Anywho, Kraemer and I will be heading out on saturday. RIGHT JEFF.....

Looking forward to some flat water fun and 2" of water skim sessions. Smile
