Nice pics Kraemer-dog

Yeah mike - dress just like you would hitting the mountain - capellene or nylon base layer and various layers of fleece - if you dont put on enough - a 20 minute swim feels like someone put you in a ziplock and tossed you in the freezer...

Do those dry suits really keep you dry? I would think after hitting the water on a few bad boosts would let water leak in.

Short answer: A good suit will keep you dry. Some suits are more prone to let water in, some suits breath better than others.

I personally swear against drysuits, one leak out in the channel during a body drag and you might as well be wearing a speedo, hypothermia will set in before you even get your kite relaunched. Plus, try swimming while trapped in a bag full of 50 gallons of 40 degree water...

I just wear a wetsuit, stays plenty warm for me.

I would not swear against a dry suit. I have worn them for many sports without failure or filling with 50 gallons of water. I have paddled for 15 years and have yet had one fill with water. I also use them for water rescue and we have not had one fill with water. Take care of the seals and you are on your way and a warm way at that. I layer with fleece and poly pro and stay cozy even if I jump in a creek that makes the columbia feel like a sauna. Try paddling the little white, upper upper cispus etc this time of year with a wet suit. not going to suffice. I just paddled the other day and took many brakes and almost had to get into the water to cool off in the winter. After 5 hours of paddling still super warm, would never have made it in just a wetsuit. Dont become an anchor, wear a PFD so when you get knocked out some way we can float you back to the beach instead of dragging you under the water. You will freeze!!!!!!!!!!! Dry suits are very nice and non limiting. Most people hate them because a good one costs an arm and a leg. IF you have to swim, blow some air in the wrist seal or neck seal and you will float like a big PFD>

...Was driving back to HR from Portland on Sunday afternoon in the rain. Looked-up at Crown Point and saw 2 basejumpers in the air. Last time saw that was 1998. Jolting!
