Epic kites will do well I'm sure. Eclipse was well respected in my book just because of Matty (sol-flyer). Matty was boosting just as high as Dimitri was in SPI when I was there, and doing the new-school wake stuff too. Epic will be respected cause Matty is respected.

Even though I'm afraid I'm going to be labeled a whinie bitch for this, here goes:

This negativity has nothing to do with Epic kites and really is aimed at Dimitri himself. Dimitri is a terrible liaison for kiteboarding. Most people (all who've posted something negative in this thread in fact) who aren't potential customers of his, that have had interactions with him on the water, can't stand him. He's the worst offender of cutting people off, pinching people upwind, hogging the space in front of cameras, and doing whatever is necessary to get exposure while shitting on all the poeple on the water around him. Not to mention bouncing off piers and making kiting look like an idiot's sport. I'm sure he's a nice guy in person though.

Regardless, He doesn't get to do that and expect forums to be filled with hearts and bunnies loving on him.

Forrest, this dude must have made a pretty serious impact on you. I'm being serious.

You pretty much never post negative stuff - so when you do - it stands out. Just never known you to speak bad about anyone or anything - in person or on the forum. But if people are doing stuff that kills the stoke - then maybe they should be called out.

I think Epic should focus its efforts on securing a strong set of Team riders, such as yourself, and getting pictures published. People trust kites that they see trusted people riding.

This sort of blends in with the OMG $$ thread. In one of my posts I said that the cost of the bar must include the costs associated with sponsored and/or team riders.

For every dollar a kite company spends on advertisements and riders (which are definately a type of advertisement) they need to recoup it in marking up their product.

Advertising to take over the market share is a common theme among a lot of industries (soda , shoes , hamburgers, insurance companies, etc.)

But getting quality riders behind your kites is a very effective way of establishing your kites. The fact that you ride Havocs says a lot about the Havocs - it influenced my decision to add a 10M to my quiver.

I just don't want to see kiting go the way of some of the other industries where advertising becomes a huge percentage of the price you pay for the product.

I think anyone who rode Eclipse & now that ride Epic, are just Dimitri hard-ons.
Yeah the guy can really throw it down, but come on, do we really need more kite companies?? I saw people in the Keys try to relaunch thier Thrusters for like 20 minutes. So I'm trying to figure out why stoke for such a shitty kite designer.
If you cant find good equipment, to fit your riding needs, from the established kite companies. Than your just trying to make a "love" connection with the brand.

Man you guys are funny..Epic is probably loving all this attention:-) All this debate is probably getting air time for the brand:-). I am looking forward to meet you guys in person when I go up north to kite

@Forest..haha I am making the Haiti reference (very irrelevant to kiting)cause what you guys make is really "it's much ado about nothing" how about let's just kite:-)?..yeah I join this forum a couple of years ago and have not seen you write anything negative either last one was questionable:-)..I liked one of the first ever read post that I read from you where you trashed people selling obsolete kites to newbie..man that was good! So you are the police of the "industry soap box"

@pepi..no worries I am not that saddened and offended:)..just want to point out so a newbie reading Forum and looking for ideas for buying new gear...he may not give a chance to another brand and thinks he can only choose from North, Cabrinha and Naish:-)...be open minded...who all want to own a Honda, and a Chevy? there are many brand to choose from:-)

@Lineman..no pun intended but it sounds a bit of an exaggeration no? 20 minutes trying to fly the kite? I am not affiliated to Eclipse, Epic..but I have flown them..They fly fine. Piece of Lemon? How about the Slingshot Link and the Caution Answer 2..pff those were bad. Mind you it's not the kite though..it's the pilot:)

happy wind, hopefully we get wind this weekend

peace

Not that I am an expert...but because I am not...I post to the average joe's like me who are thinking of buying in the future.

I have rode Thrusters for two years bought thru Bellingham Kiteboarding. I have nothing but high regardes for their professionalism and quality.

If you want to see someone ride them right see Jonah at Lyle. Amazing!! Shocked I have yet to see any locals any better on any gear.

On second thought Wally at BOG this past summer came close.

How many people are on here pimping gear either for there job or discount gear, I imagine a fair amount. well, for us the common non industry people we can call it as we see it!

The problem is many companies monitor forums to increase the excitement for there product. Thats fine/great because it makes for an exciting place to look at and learn about the products that we enjoy to use. a place to build loyalty!

so take the good with the bad!!!
