i have kited in hua hin.
had a 16m, it was pretty light wind and the wind and current seemed to go in the same direction making it harder to get upwind. IMO, it was mediocre compared to kiting the Gorge and if I ever go to thailand again, I'm leaving all the kite gear at home and not even gonna worry about it. There are better places to take a kite vacation IMO and not worth packign all the gear around thailand.
we went the last part of march / first part of april. There was no wind in chumphon when we travelled through there on our way to the islands. we visited koh toa and koh phanang but never made it to the big island (Koh Samui).
the wind was super super light and onshore on both the smaller islands i went to. And the beaches were super super crowded on koh phanang.
I didn't make it to pranburi, pattaya or phuket.
as for other stuff to do, snorkeling and diving on koh toa is awesome. You can also rent motorbikes from a German guy on koh toa and rip around the island exploring, seeing temples and what not; LOTS of fun. I would also recomend trying to hit a full moon party on koh phanang. They happen every month and one of hte craziest times i've ever had.
we mostly just drank and partied and met people, but there is lots more to do. One thing i definately recomend doing is visiting erawan national park, there are tons of beautiful water falls you can swim in and monkeys that will steal from you. http://www.dnp.go.th/parkreserve/asp/style1/default.asp?npid=107&lg=2
oh yea, and the water in hua-hin, was basically flat water, with little ankle biter rollers coming in. wind was side onshore. |

Thanks for the quick response. I am not taking my kite gear. All those places now rent. That's the way it should be! Use their gear and give it back when done.
Wow those waterfalls/ park is beautiful.
Not sure how the shoulder will hold up. Might just be a half day then eat pain pills! Thats why I am looking for other things to do as well.

Its my understanding that their season is July & August, for wind and waves. |
