I'd be laughed off the beach and prolly end up in fisticuffs with Forrest.
J, that's the thing though, the Sandbar is covered in organizations that do this very thing, and none of the owners live in Hood River for more than the kiting season. They travel around doing this all over, Mexico in the Winter, SPI in the Spring.
<rant>
On a slight related, but not directed at J.Matic note,
I want everyone to know that localism is a bunch of bullshit and isn't tolerated on the Sandbar. The Sandbar is there for the public to enjoy, regardless of where you live. The Sandbar is public land, for the public.

I guess Snowkiting is new enough that it still has that "my precious" lord of the rings b.s. still going on.

LOL, Ryan, you've done more to take business away from your organization by posting this childish rant than Brad did opening up a competing business.
Not sure if "Fool" or "Tool" is the right word...
Forrest, hang on a second man, I'm sure Brad is a cool dude and all - but its possible Ryan may have a legitimate concern here - emphasis maybe.
Competition is competition and it is the American way, however, there is such thing as unfair competition. Copyrights and trademarks are all part of competition and need to be respected. You do not need a patent to have your shit protected by law - you just need a product that is recognized as yours. For example, Toyota cannot mimick the design of lets say - a BMW - they can't just take the headlight and bumper design of another manufacturer and then design the same thing on their own cars - its copyright infringement.
The fact that Brad has the website www.snowkitingsoldier.com and the original site was snowkitesolder.com - at least provides some room for argument that this is unfair competition - I'm not saying it is - or it isn't. Just saying before we stone this Ryan dude, at least make an educated conclusion - is Brad competing in an unfair manner?

Who needs a "guided tour" anyway. Just get some time off work, drive to Idaho, throw kite up, ride till dark, eat/ drink/ pass out in -40 sleeping bag in car and repeat until have to go back to work. Its not like scuba charters where you have to have the dive boat, and know exactly where spongebobs pineapple is. Isnt it pretty obvious where the goods are?

strange irony in that image...
Buchwald v. Paramount (1990) was a breach of contract lawsuit filed and decided in California in which humorist and writer Art Buchwald alleged that Paramount Pictures stole his script idea and turned it into the 1988 movie Coming to America. Buchwald won the lawsuit and was awarded damages, and then accepted a settlement from Paramount before any appeal took place.
The decision was important mainly for the court's determination in the damages phase of the trial that Paramount used "unconscionable" means of determining how much to pay authors. Paramount claimed, and provided accounting evidence to support the claim, that despite the movie's $288 million in revenues, it had earned no net profit, according to the definition of "net profit" in Buchwald's contract, and hence Buchwald was owed nothing: a classic example of Hollywood accounting. The court agreed with Buchwald's argument that this was "unconscionable", and therefore invalid. Fearing a loss if it appealed, and the subsequent implications of the unconscionability decision across all its other contracts, Paramount settled for undisclosed terms. The case was the subject of a 1992 book, Fatal Subtraction: The Inside Story of Buchwald v. Paramount by Pierce O'Donnell, the lawyer who represented Buchwald, and Los Angeles Times reporter Dennis McDougal.

My father-in-law is financing our trip to Florida next week from a recent copyright infringement lawsuit.
But you can rest assured, as a retired plasma physicist, his lawsuit did not have the air of "dude, you stole my website design"

Thank you Ryan for the insight into your company. I'll be sure to avoid it. Do I need your permission to come to Idaho? If so, please send me an application or is it a visa I need?

kiting is fun.
there is plenty of snow and wind to SHARE...and there is also plenty of kiters willing to pay for a tour to SHARE. when you do a google search for a product or service, don't you like having multiple options? i do.
stop whining, and see how the season goes. more online presence means more business..more business to the area means more business for all parties involved.
just remember why we all do this...kiting is fun.
ha..awesome
