I thought the hype was a bit much, but it's really amazing. The 3d is legit and the plot is there, but the visual onslaught is amazingly new and vibrant. It's worth the money to watch.
Did it really cost 500,000,000? Wow, that's a large number.

nooooo, effects yes for sure an oscar winner. I saw it in imax 3d, which was fun. However I think the plot was incredibly weak and predictable. I wish one big move would dare to go outside the Hollywood mold.

$280M in direct production costs and about $150M and counting in marketing and avertising. Of course, your advertising is free.

Dude, one of the main reasons why Hollywood does not go outside of the mold is because of investors (not 100%, but definately a large factor). What this means is that movie producers bundle movies in groups of like 10 movies or so and then seek funding for the movies. They show investors that they have been able to earn 9% (or whatever percentage they have been making) on their returns. So they stick to the same formula of movies over and over, year after year, because they know they will get the same return - just as long as they keep producing the exact same movie (just substitute actors and change the title of the movie once in a while). Investors like stability and years of track records. If hollywood changes their stupid movie formulas and started making quality films - who knows what the hell kind of return they will get. Instability scares off investors.

The only way they will ever change if their profits are affected. Not likely any time soon. They get a whole new crop of movie watchers every year who have not seen their stupid formula driven movies over and over again - this group is called the "teeny bopper" group - and put tons and tons of money into the movie producers pockets.

They will change their formula when they feel it in their pocket books. When people stop paying cash to see the same movie with different actors.

foreign movies and independent films offer variety - and many of them have much, much better plot lines than most hollywood crap.

Very cool movie. Even the 3-D previews were fun.
No lines at the Kahului theater either.

I guess the mold is a great thing to resist, but sometimes predictable is ok. So, I was watching Independent Film Channel, The Amazing Story of Mushrooms..anybody see that?

Definitely not the mold, but more about actual mold. It was just a good at Avatar but in a different way,

Cheers Very Happy

LOL

No I didn't like superbad either. What can I say?

However, i think I would have liked the movie a little more if that blue lady was wearing a little less clothes - bwahahaha - I'm pretty sure there were a couple of shots of her nipple behind her necklace Laughing
