From I kitesurf, paste by me here:

"Due to the fact that the corps & BPA have the level of the Columbia VERY high the access to the Spit is non-existant.Please be aware that it is against Port of Hood River ordinances to launch or land from the Marina Beach or Event Site. We are asking the kiteboard community's cooperation until the water level drops. The port is trying to make this a win-win situation for all involved but launching from the Marina Beach is a safety issue and we are receiving a number of complaints and reports from the "passive water recreational users" The port will enforce the ordinances with the assistance of the marina sheriff and the local police. "

damn kids..... Very Happy

Fuck the port... how is it a"safety issue" launching from the marina. Theyre right, launching from the parking lot at the sandbar directly upwind of a jetty is much safer. When there is no sandbar to launch from the marina is the next best option. Personally I would rather launch from the sandbar when there is sand. But with the water this high it is just rediculous and dangerous. Im going to go talk to the schools and ask them to write letters regarding the dangerous sandbar launch. See you all at the marina on the next windy day!
Fuck the port.

You said it, but i am sure the saftey issue is not about "your" saftey, but of the saftey of non kiters. I am sure you and your non faggot bootie binding wearing friends are safe launchers, but it is the kooks who are either learning or not as expericenced, or just plain clueless that are going to hurt an inocent bystander. Go for it dude launch there, I dont see any harm, the sand bar will come back, and if you get arrested i am sure you can get it exponged whenever you turn 18.

If you launch from the marina you will just ruin accessability for every other kiteboarders in the gorge. Come on be responsible dont $#@% it up for the rest of us......beside there are better places to ride than BOZO-BEACH. Is it really worth it? I say go to a different beach where you kite naked and no one will give a rip.

Yep, it's tough to be chill when the need for some adrenaline juices is calling. I don’t agree with the Port's position, but we need to be careful with how we approach the issue. Working through the kite schools is a good place to start. Good advice Bammer. ~D

Thumb's Up

It was fun to launch from the marina last Monday and see how first class citizens get treated. Easy parking, nice grass to rig on. We were owning it!

Oh well, back to your scraps, kiters. Laughing

Some people werent to stoked on my post, but all i really have to say is that is my personal opinion, also I believe that is prolly the opinion of most other kiters who feel like for some reason we dont get equal privelages(?) off the water. I dont want to piss anyone else off so Im going to stop now. We as kiters need to voice our opinions on this matter because if we all just sit and wait things are going to stay exactly how they are now, And the sandbar is going to get overcrowded and DANGEROUS.

and saying "fuck the port" helps alot. i dont really see the problem. we can still launch from the parking lot. if your a begginer or really worried about your saftey then you can wait for the sandbar to come back. if your not then enjoy the smaller crowd and larger riding area.

Tucker did you even read my post? It was a lot more than just fuck the port.

I have seen more than just begginner kiteboarders getting worked on a launch from the inside. The wind is super sketchy and some weird shit can happen. Have you been to the sandbar lately? If you have been Im sure that you would have considered launching at the marina as well.

Launching at the Marina just makes it a lot easier to get out. If the port really wants to take measures to make us stay at the sandbar I could care less, I can do the launch from the inside fine. But not every kiter can handle that launch. Even experienced kiters hate launching from the inside because of the sketchy wind.

You dont see the problem because you dont kite at the sandbar every day. Would you still not see a problem if your local spot to kite sucked, and there was a perfectly better, safe launch area that you couldnt launch from? Wouldnt you want to launch there to?

Yes, maybe begginers should wait to kite, but how are they going to know that? How are they going to know that a launch from the inside is dangerous? This is why they are called BEGGINERS, because they dont have the experience to know all this.

Read posts and actually think sometimes before you start to post shit about what someone else said. Put yourself in our shoes, maybe then you will understand all this better...

i read your post and rode at the sandbar twice memorial day weekend. i launched at the parking lot. it was easy. yea there is a wind shadow but it was a hell of alot easier than stevenson. i agree the marina is easier but i dont agree its nessesary. launching at the parking lot is a 2 person job. if your a beginner whos not smart enough to realize that you cant launch its more than likely nobodys gona let go of your kite. if your a beginner taking a lesson then you have instuctors there to help and its safe enough. that kind of launch works really well at stevenson. as far as thinking about the shit i post im not the one saying to fuck the company that owns the land i kite on. i reallize that its your home spot but you can launch in the lot. the schools arent going to loose customers, the normal kooks who should really be getting lessons or riding somewhere less crowded will stay away. so why is the marina so important?
