Meeting with the city tomorrow to get my permit. And HR people feel like pitching in?
It's gonna be bolted so you can learn to lead and you won't die.

It'll be located in my RV car port, basically where we built the BigBox.
Hood River has a ton of climbing around it, rumor has it there are over a 1000 bolts in the rock around here. I've found 2 secret climbing areas and working on discovering a few more. I've met up with some of the local climbers and have been learning alot.
I would love to see a climbing gym in Hood River. It's cold and wet here in the winter, with very little indoor activities. I would like to start building an interest in it and maybe in 5 years there will be enough to support a full on gym.

Yea, Area 51 rocks. I can only lead 5.9 right now and Area 51 is mostly 5.10 and above. It's also at 4000 feet, so only really climbable during the kiteboarding season. The stuff I'm talking about is near Lyle.
You a climber BamBam?

That looks great. Good idea designing it with a roof
Did you come up with that yourself?

I have enoiugh stuff to probably build half that wall already done including the holds. Let me chat with Janet and maybe we can work out a good deal.
Oh and I would also make a couple small changes to your design. You probably want at least part of your wall to go flat all the way up.

not having a legitimate indoor climbing gym has been one of my main complaints about living in hood river.
i'd agree your desgn would benifit from more verticle flat areas.

Looks good dude!! I can definitely lend a hand with the construction after work. In terms of design, I might get rid of the sections near the top that go vertical. They are fun features, if you can actually climb up over the transition from overhanging to vertical but yours are too close to the celing.
Did that make sense?
There is a place in vancouver that sells bolts and what not at near whole sale rates. I'll try to remember there name to find out how much a bag of 100 t-nuts would be.

| Bolts for holds come with almost all holds you would buy. Bolts to clip in and lead with you can just screw in ye bolts into the t-nuts. I am not sure how much force a section of plywood would take though as far as taking a leed climg. The wall I build was mostly for boldering. T-nuts are expensive. I have a box of hundreds still laying around.

Hey Kodiak,
Let me know dude. I was just about to place an order with REI for about 60 holds and 500 t-nutts.
What's the thoughts on this design?
This is just one bay of my carport, and there is a whiole other bay. It's a rectangle shape so there are a few other walls, but I'm just trying to start small first.

That looks better. One other possibility is to add about a 3 ft lip coming down from the ceiling on the side with no wall. It would open up a bunch of route possbilities.
I have to cover for my boss this weekend, so I won't be up in the gorge, but next weekend I can probably take you through what I have and we can chat.

Forest, don't buy the T-nuts at REI!! I'm telling you the are much much cheaper in bulk. Also, your top anchors ARE NOT t-bolts. I think must have read wrong but that is a definite no no. Like big time no no. don't waste your time making a leadable section on a 20' wall. What..its like two clips?
I like the last design better although I would ditch that 2'6" section , extend the 4' almost to the floor, and then on the left of the 4' wide section, make it like an overhanging hyhedral.
You want to have a wall where you can utilize a number of different climbing techniques.. lay backs, toe hooks, reach throughs, gastons..

| What is a hyhedral? That's the first time I've ever googled something and even google didn't know what it was.
