Way out back though. Those things dont hang where I kite. I have run into them many times trolling the gulf stream though. They can get big and it is very unerving to see them swim by your boat.....more so when your also on a 22' Mako. hehe.

I have an SST and really enjoy it, I think its a great board. However, like other have said, a surfboard is not the lightwind solution that you would think it would be. The rocker and fins on a surfboard cause allot of drag, more than you would think. To top it off, riding a surfboard in light wind is novel for a little bit but quickly becomes boring. I think you would be much happier on a skim board. They are light, easy to transport and squirrely as hell.

Finally, a word on straps...while there are some (mostly those that ride straps) that think people that proclaim the joys of riding strapless are simply on some kind of stupid ego trip, there really is no reason to use them unless you want to boost on your surfboard (which may shorten its life considerably).

I started riding straps for a couple of sessions and couldn't believe how much EASIER it was to ride without them. They seriously just get in the way when your trying to jibe and take away all the freedom of moving your feet around and staying loose which is why surfboards can be soo much fun.

So I'll give you the same advice I give everyone.. forget the straps when you are first learning. If for some reason you can't stay on your board (like perhaps your retarded or something Smile ) then put your straps on. If you don't have big waves, then I really can't see the advantage of straps.

Have fun and enjoy the warm water, its fucking snowing here!!
