Save your money and go to bachelor for some real snow and terrain.

Mt. Hood =

SKi bowl = slushy shit snow, the slowest lifts in the country, and one steep section that lasts for 2 minutes.

Timberline = decent snow, shit loads of teen agers, and little diversity in terrain.

Meadows, some of the better snow on the mountain, decent terrain that is never accessible when the snow is good, and yeah, long lift lines.

What can I say, I'm a jaded old ski snob. If you haven't ventured out of Oregon and Washington to ski let me tell you that it is well worth the effort. Take a trip to Big sky for a week:

http://www.bigskyresort.com/Vacation-Planner/Maps/tmapEasternExp09-10.pdf

then try to get pumped up about "heather canyon baby" ummm.. yeah.

Fair point about venturing outta Oregon, but disagree about Bachelor having real terrain. Being a nice round butte that mountain has no double blacks or cliffs/drops except at the peak, which is closed almost all winter due to weather. It's fun riding in fresh snow, but once it gets above 8" you're wanting steeper terrain. The surrounding states all have better terrain for powder. It's still nice to have something close to home for day trips and park riding though. Beats driving 4 hours to Tahoe.

I have been getting season passes at Meadows for a while now - this is the first year I am debating whether or not to get a pass. They sucked some serious ballz last year. Poor management of lifts. Even shittier parks. Wacked night skiing. Had a bad season last year - don't want to repeat it. Plus meadows doesn't really give a crap about customer service - they know people will flock to their resort - so why give a rats ass.

Maybe fusion pass - maybe something else. Well see. Maybe I will take up knitting.

skibowl and idaho as soon as there is enough snow. i've had a meadows pass for 7 years in a row now and i'm over it. tired of the corporate bullshit at meadows. too much $$$$$$$$$$$ for insane lift lines and their inability to get terrain open when it matters. i'll settle for mediocre conditions and more runs.

Meadows is not a terrible place to ski IF:

The Snow is good
The crowds are not huge
It is not raining
The parking lot is not full
You pack your own food/drink
You are willing to venture around and seek out the good terrain

It is realitively close to Portland or Hood River, so day trips are possible.

I just don't see the value in their pricing.

In Colorado, Idaho and Montana you get:
Dry Snow
Sun
Powder
Relatively short lift lines
Terrain
Big huge parking lots that you don't pay extra for
Nice lodges all over the mountains
Gondolas
Pipes/parks
Good Restraunts

I am willing to pay for that stuff, but the prices there are still less. Add on some driving/flying expenses and lodging and it is still a better value.

Train on Hood, ride/ski the Rockies.

I agree with ya Steve. Had the Meadows pass last year for my first winter in Oregon. Like everyone else said none of the goods were ever open, they had huge lines, and they are corperate ass holes.

But coming from the east coast I have to say that even Meadows prices, lines, and conditions are way better than just about any other resort on the east coast (Jay Peak is one of the few exceptions). So its not all that bad.

I was paying $82 for a day pass on Killington in VT .

That's true for park riding, but on a decent powder day even weekdays are packed at least in the morning.

Yeah, I've spend my time at Alta/Snowbird/Vail/etc. Yeah, Meadows sucks in comparison. But let's put things into perspective here... We live 40 minutes from the mountain. If there's a dump, you can hit it and be back in town for lunch. Last year wasn't the greatest, but I definitely got my fill of powder days. For $440, you can barely get a plane ticket to a decent resort. Plus, after spending $2000 to go to Utah twice last year and getting skunked on pow both times, I'm thinking the Meadows pass is a pretty sweet deal.
