Bring beer it's always a good back up plan if there is no wind.
Gorge or another company should have some SUP's out there for rent...I bet they would make some $$$ in the summer renting from there.
It would be worth the drive then if the wind sucked you could just SUP instead |

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Sauvie is OVER. Get it ? Sauvie sucks donkey balls now. It's done, it isn't coming back until next year, the party is over and the people have left. It's not worth your time or gas money. Ride in the gorge or go to Jones.
Ok, seems harsh but here is the deal.
#1 Its September folks, the thermal conditions that make Sauvie rideable are for the most part done in mid-august.
#2 Water levels are REALLY low. What this means is that flow rates are a fraction of what they are in May/june/July so the tides have a much larger affect on the direction of flow. While high tides int he spring/early summer make the current stall or go slightly upriver, the high tide at this time of the river makes the current rip....in the wrong direction.
#3 Rooster rock may not have the best wind for beginners but there is allot of beach out there and its about the same distance as sauvie is.
You may get the occasional freak condition where north winds will make there way through the island but its going to be hit or miss. Work some extra hours in the evening and get out early the next day to hit rooster. |

| Ikite is never really reliable for Sauvie anyway. The tide is going to be all wrong this afternoon as well. You could probably ride if you were there right now, but the tide looks to be turning bad around 2 or so... BTW, do you have a boat? There's a couple of spots that are boat access only... |

It went off pretty good (for SI) last night. I used my 13M but could have easily used my 11M. Just me and two other guys there.
WoW sensor sez 10NNW for SI right now and the sensor is kinda behind a tree line so its prob around 12-13 on the water. Tide doesn't go bad until ~6pm tonight.
If you can get to Jones, the airport or Stevenson go for it. For those of us who can't get anywhere else on week nites, it looks rideable. _________________ Lets FLY |

Thanks for the idea for SUP rental but sauvies is protected from commercial happenings being a wildlife preserve . So no on site renting or business like that which I respect. However we do at times have SUPs out there to try or the bungee banshee for a non wind alternative . I don't know if they have got it dialed in .
Call if your looking for a demo or what ever and hopefully the boys with toys will show. _________________ Gorge Performance

Good info, but that fickle, prude of a sailing spot delivered last night. You were wrong and I bet it goes again at least once more this weekend. I'll be riding the salty waters, but I'll check the readings this weekend.
6 pack of micros to the winner?
Have fun kiting this wkend wherever you sail. |

ohhh yeah, I got served. Big time!!! Man, I am super bummed I missed out on what had to be an epic session of slogging around on my 15m kite.
That is really what I needed to cap off a great season; an evening session without enough wind to even pop out of the water. That sucks cause I really needed to perfect my slow speed lawn mowing.
So yeah, it is obvious that I haven't learned a damn thing about sauvie as I have only been going out there for 6 years. My post was really in response to the last week of people asking "will sauvie go" while at the same time its blowing mid 20's at rooster.
So in the future, anytime there is a puff of northerly wind, drive out to Sauvie cause its going to be going off!!! Sauvie is kite-able all year long, even on stiff south winds. If you don't think Sauvie will work go to Frenchman's bar as you have even better chances there. If that doesn't work, go hit up Vancouver lake because nobody around here has ever tried kiting there either and I'm sure its epic!!
Then after 3-4 years of driving out and sitting on the beach or tacking back and forth in 12 knot winds, you may come to the conclusion that maybe my time could be better spent finding some real wind. |

We went to Stevenson, it was horrible damn kites kept yanking us off the water and lines of lumpy water made mowing a straight line really tricky - sounds like we should have to Sauvies.... |
