Went up to hang out with Chanson, Blake, Brian, Hood Rat and friends after their session at Laurance Lake campground yesterday. To everyone's delight, the lake was blowing 9m. Blake, Chanson, and Brian scored a nice sunset session at 2850 feet with a nice beach to launch from! What a cool unexpected chance to kite! They'll be posting pix I'm sure.

The lake will work in both east and west winds.... as long as the water level holds up. A few snowkites were even out last winter when the lake was frozen.

Shit! Long-time secret spot now posted... oh well, I can't imagine it's going to get crowded up there. They're not good, but here are a couple shots from earlier this year.

It was hard to imagine anyone actually kiting there prior to us being there. Though, we figured it had been windsurfed before. Is this the spot that Magicmaker was talking about last winter for snowkiting?

Yeah, I think that's the spot we checked out once when it was all snow covered. No luck with wind that day though.

the spot you're refering to is the big field at the bottom of Laurance Lake Rd., just after the turnoff from Clear Creek.

That field is the money shot for terrain and snow in the winter, but never seems to get any wind in the winter. We've been scoping this field for a couple of years now with no luck.
Have you or Adam ever poached it on a day with wind?

I would be real sure to get permission from the landowner( Mc carthy) before kiting the field. He hasn't seemed very receptive to recreation users of the Forest lands in the past. It looks like he is making a token effort to grow something in the field as we speak-it has been fallow for the past ten years or so . It would be a killer kite spot but it doesn't funnel the winds as well as lauarance lake. Should work on W/SW winds.

At the right time, during a good year, snowkiting on Laurence Lake is safe. But before anyone gets any ideas for this winter: Be very careful.
