Wed Aug 19, 09 7:33 am Sauvie's Break-Ins/Questionable Behavior |
|
|
I'll Try to make this clear the first time.
I LEFT ALL MY GEAR IN MY CAR, DOOR CLOSED HALF WAY, LATCHED BUT STILL CRACKED, ALARM OFF! Bait!
SUSPECT/Questionable Behavior: Blue NEON & White NEON
Hispanic woman: 5'6" 165lbs+, Dark Curly Short Hair, White tank top, blue shorts
Hispanic male: 5'8" 185 , dark short hair, tank top,Denim shorts.
As I was sitting and visiting at the sandbox, hearing of another break in at SI on Sunday, wallet ect. stolen from another kiters car, I realized this has got to be organized crime. And yes, finally, I see the Sheriff out there patrolling, I saw him scoping my car pretty hard, looking in and all around it. So I waved, 'dood everything ok?' he waved back, no prob. I wasn't going to lock up tight until it was time to empty my car and kite.
I kept one eye up wind, and one eye on the parking lot, CHECK THIS OUT, then I saw a BLUE DODGE NEON pull in behind our cars and flip its emergency flashers on, then saw a lady get out and head for the grass near the big tree at the end, IT LOOKED like she was picking up glass, then fire wood, and she had a WHITE 5 GALLON TRASH BAG/sack in her hand, she did a great job looking like someone picking up trash, but I never saw anything go in and stay in the sack, she'd put things in half way, f' around and pull it back out and toss it.
I watched her the entire time, she was scoping cars, she walked in between all of our cars. Curious and pissed off, I walked down there, she got in the car and left. So I pretended to get water for my dogs, curious again, I walked into the grass to see if there was any glass or wood left behind the tree, stopped for a pee. And noticed dozens of bottles, tons of firewood, this only confirmed my suspicion . SHE WALKED AROUND 6 CARS BEFORE I GOT DOWN THERE, walked around my car, stacked with gear, probably 3 times.
Then I went back up the hill, saw the Blue neon pull in half way down the line of parked cars, and the lady got out again and headed for the grassy area S. of the road. And this tim the blue car backed into a parking space about half way.
Discouraged the wind wasn't going to blow until after my dinner was cold, I decided to leave.
On my way out, I saw the Blue Neon, Half way, parked, backed into his spot sticking out just far enough to look west and east. But only the male, in the driver's seat. I slowed and scoped, didn't see the lady, but the dood look at attention. AND KAAABOOM, I saw the lady get out of a While Dodge Neon, parked parallel to the road, 2/3rds down the line of parked cars, with it's emergency flashers on, same plastic bag, still empty, I couldn't see the driver, they had pretty dark windows. She headed for the grass walking in between cars.
As much as I saw the Sheriff yesterday, I didn't see him around at all when all of this was going on!
If I'd had a camera to take pics of the lady and the cars, I would of. I convinced these people were on the prowl. If you would of seen the lady searching around you might have been suspicious as well.
PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR CARS.
I am printing this, and giving it to the Sheriff out there next time I hit SI!
thanks,
-Eli |

Good work man. You didn't write their license plates down did you? If anyone sees them out there that'd be a good next step so we can confirm repeated sketchy behavior by same cars AND have a place to look next time shit gets stolen. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

sounds like a good job for a strategically hidden gopro inside your car
wide angle shouldn't have any problem getting their faces. |

Eli / All-
Sheriff Larry Weaver is usually on the island somewhere. You should definitely get in touch with him and get this description to him.
Here's his cell phone number: SHERIFF WEAVER 503-341-1595 _________________ Lets FLY |

UPDATE:
Sheriff Weaver isn't currently working the island (after about 20 years!). He's expected to be back in the future, but the current Sheriff on the island is:
Sheriff Lenard Olsen, Cell # 503-916-9930
I've given Lenard a verbal on Eli's observations. Per Lenard, if you see the folks that Eli has described out there, get their license plate numbers and a picture if possible, and then call Lenard's cell.
There's only ONE WAY off the island and Lenard will be happy to introduce himself to them. _________________ Lets FLY |

But seriously, I was out there by myself one afternoon and some super sketchy looking hispanic dude pulled up in a white neon, and just kind of walked around for a few minutes. I was trying to get out of there but I didn't want to leave either my car or my gear unattended, so I just stood on top of the bank until he got back in his car and drove off, which was only about 10 minutes. it would be nice to not have to racial profile but it sounds to me like Pedro and Maria have an affinity for kite gear. _________________ Let's go kite. |

It's their actions that have made us suspicious, not their race. Applying racial profiling in this case is really just racism since we're talking about two specific people. The implied idea from what you said is that these two people are more likely to be criminals because they're Hispanic, even though we have no proof that they've stolen anything.
Not trying to insult you, as I don't think you said that with malicious intent. |

Ditto what Forrest said. If Eli had seen two white guys with shaved heads and tats doing the car prowling, then that's the folks we'd be looking for.
No one should just suspect someone just because they are hispanic (unless of course they happen to fly a C kite and be named Cesar ).
Everyone should suspect *anyone* who is prowling around our cars and especially if they are carrying a trash bag that they never actually use to pick up trash! _________________ Lets FLY |

thanks FlyDunes: feel free to pass out my number if you want
The last thing I want to do is sweat my stuff being taken. And it seems SI isn't the only location being slammed with break-ins.
My adrenaline started pumping when I thought I might witness a break in. I spoke with my S.O. about what I saw, encouraged, I felt it needed to be shared.
There is about $5 in cans and bottles in the grass there. |
