My 2 cents.
With all these "secret spots", who exactly are the kings and Queens that are the priveleged ones to enjoy those locations and who appointed them.
I think most of the beginners that take a few lessons and then try and put an effort forth to learn in a safe spot are the true heart and soul of this sport. Maybe a few of us should look back to those days. WHat I honestly see are beginners being so careful not to interfere that they actually take 3 times as long to learn because ther are so careful. Now, point the camera in the other direction to the experinced instructior pulling a powered kiteloop 20 feet from shore to get a rise out of the spectators..
This is not a Gorge specific topic. This is everywhere.
Good luck. You are doing exactly what you should do. Ride where you want. Just make your own space and stay out of the main travel path. _________________ __________________________

Damn, I leave da Hood for a couple of years and suddenly there is a whole new batch of know it alls! Hmmm, time to find a new sport when I get back. Or like Blowhard just suggested, dust of the sailing gear and go back to something a bit more challenging.

You guys are just getting lit while our flame has just fizzled out for the summer. I thought I would stop by and see how the NW Kiters operate.
To use our favorite term this forum is epic. I cant say how much I have liked reading through your posts on this forum. You guys have it down as far as community participation and just an all out great place to spread the news and talk about the latest stuff at your launches.
We should all learn from this site. I will be around and hope you dont mind a foreigner stopping in now and then.
Good luck with the start of your season. I have been wanting to come up to the Gorge since my windsurfing days as a teenager. As an adult and kitesurfer, I hope to fulfil my wish to ride in da hood. |
The above was my very first post on this forum. Does the way we are responding to this thread reflect my original observation? _________________ __________________________

That strikes me as a little harsh. Sure, there are times when the guy doesn't seem to have much of a filter, but I've read more than a few of his posts which were thoughtful, informative and articulate. And I don't doubt that he's actually out there doing it. I haven't met the guy in person yet, but there are photos of him here, and I'm pretty sure I've seen him at Jones once or twice. And just for the record, the only PM I've gotten from him (about the super-secret you-know-what) was actually pretty civil, if curt, in tone.
Now, Bonetti... I'm still convinced that guy's really Andy Kaufmann. _________________ "Resist much, obey little."

Monkeyboy is very legit in many kiting and non-kiting disciplines. The deal is he is just like the rest of us who are balancing the dues of family time vs playtime. If you meet him...you'll laugh at his humor....is it sarcastic??? Always.
Scott Edgar...who realistically won the blowout this year* almost missed it because of his daughter's birthday party so he was bogarting exta Blowout "gold bling" wristbands for his daughter to minimize homefront negative impact for not helping with the balloons. Probably a better balancing act than what he did to get through Home Valley.
Long story short.....the Gorge has a nice industry kiting footprint with rules and bs but it also has A LOT of good places to ride daily so don't get caught up in the drama and just come ride. It's all good in the Hood because what you see in reality on the beach and in the water is tame compared to this forum and Bonetti is the poster child for that!!!
* Scott was technically the first "board rider" because....come on people....who will ever beat Cory on his circa 1977 Jobe ski's through the Hatch area if it's blowing??? |
