This one might be a little bit easier to decipher--credit Gman
It blew--but the tide sucked till at least 8. (I was on the 129)
A 13m with large board / skim / surf and you would have been lit. |

Knapp Landing is closer to the SI kite beach than St Helens and that chart is a little more accurate.
I had a question about what's "good and bad" PM'd to me and I figured I'd post my answer here in case anyone else needed this info:
You want the wind and water to be moving in opposite directions. That adds to their power. When the tide is flowing the same direction as the wind, it robs the wind of apparent speed.
Good is when the tide flows toward Astoria (ebb tide). Bad is when if flows the opposite direction, toward Portland (flood tide).
At high tide the flow will switch from flowing in toward Portland to flowing out toward Astoria (receding or ebb tide: GOOD).
At low tide, the goodness stops and the water will begin flowing back toward Portland again (flood tide: BAD).
Early in the season, the tide doesn't matter so much, because there is still a lot of water in the river flowing down stream and that sort of cancels out the effect of the tide. Later in the season, like now, tide starts to make a big difference. _________________ Lets FLY |

Interesting info, it's always nice to learn something new. It actually turns out to be a FAQ.
Tidal current predictions are available as far up river as Walker Island. The table is a bit hard to decipher, but the velocity difference there is only about 2 knots. Clearly we are talking about very marginal wind (like we have on SI), when it is really going to make a difference. Here is a table for Cathlamet Channel. |

Great night last night and great company.
15M foil and my new 153 Wing board (great combo for the lighter stuff, and pretty wild in the higher)(Kudos to-yos LW Dave ).
My little boy Curtis even got in on the action when he borrowed my Wing and Hav-14M. |
