How is this any different than killing cows in a slaughter house? Eat beef?

The main points are:
- The terrorizing, capture & slaughter of these animals in an inhumane way.
- They are not killing them for just food. They kill them because they consider them pests - competition for food.
- Most Japanese do not eat dolphins, and are unknowingly eating the meat.
The focus is not to condemn a people because of cultural differences. It is to bring awareness to a situation that even most Japanese do not know about. Last edited by boardrider on Mon Aug 03, 09 12:43 pm; edited 2 times in total

I knew a guy in Sandy that would eat dogs. He and his friends would go to the Humane Society and get them. No shit He was very proud of this.
Was the humane society aware of how the dogs he took were taken care of

Man, this was like 10 years ago, and the details are fuzzy. So, I should not state exactly where he got the dogs from (which is why i edited my above post shortly after i posted it).
This guy was part of a renaissance ' mountain man ' group, and this activity may have been linked to that. Last edited by boardrider on Mon Aug 03, 09 6:02 am; edited 1 time in total

Why the hell would you eat dog? I ask because I've eaten dog and it tastes like shit. Super dark ass gamey nasty shit. Cat? hell yeah, like the saying, it does taste like chicken.
Nonetheless, it takes a pretty sick puppy to go out and kill dolphins.
and just so nobody reports me to the human society or whatever, I ate those animals in the Philippines cause its rude not to eat what is offered to you (and I was kind of curious to see what it tasted like). Man I ate some weird ass shit over there.
... Posted to raise some awareness for the people that enjoy these amazing animals in the water with them.
Whether an individual thinks dolphins are amazing or not is subjective. Whether dog taste good or not is subjective. Humans kill other mammals for meat. As long as the animal is not endangered I don't think it is anyone's business to push their cultural biases on other cultures.
There are people in other cultures that will not eat beef or pork ,because it is against their religion, who are just as shocked at Americans eating habits. Should Americans stop slaughtering pigs and cows because it is offensive to other cultures?
How is this any different than killing cows in a slaughter house? Eat beef? I enjoyed a nice rib eye (bone in) last night. I did not mourn the loss of that cute big eyed cow one bit.
If the argument is that dolphins are more intelligent, exactly who decides which animals are too intelligent to kill and which are not too intelligent to kill.
Only practicing Vegans would be consistent in their argument that the Japanese should not kill these dolphins. Vegans walk the talk. The rest of us do not have a leg to stand on in my opinion.

I think Puppy is the key word,
My pal who's in S.Korea says you get to go out back and pick the puppy you want
they just call it canine

I have a good friend who did a tour in Viet Nam '68, USMC. Had a pet stray that stayed with him the whole tour, mascot. Last day in country he stewed him up and had a great meal. Wouldn't have it any other way. Tastes like chicken (crap) _________________ CGKA Member

I am assuming this question is more to provoke people than to actually look for an answer. If you can't figure out the differences between what is going on in this area of the world around killing Dolphins and a beef slaughterhouse that is pretty sad.

I was looking for an answer without the "flipper bias" thrown in.
These dolphins are rounded up and slaughtered. Blood everywhere and more gruesome than not by my standards. However, we also round up cows and slaughter them too. Slaughter houses are not pretty either.
You could argue that the dolphins are not being treated as humanly as the cows to a degree, but, the end result is the same. Dog, cow, pig, dolphin, snake....what is the difference except our perception based on our cultural conditioning?
In my opinion, meat eaters hold no moral, ethical or cultural high ground on this issue. Repeat: Only practicing Vegans would be consistent in their argument that the Japanese should not kill these dolphins. Vegans walk the talk.

I listened to the whole special on NPR the other day and it was truly heartbreaking and I actually started tearing up in the car. This is MUCH different and far worse than any slaughterhouse in the world - the dolphins are actually tortured for up to a week while trapped by deafening sonar "fences", so loud that they scream the entire time in sheer panic and then the "pretty" ones are kept for acquatic centers around the world (not the US), while the others (20,000 per year!) are slaughtered. This is all done in a "national park" behind fences and many of the locals do not even know it's going on. There are shrines to dolphins in the town even. This documentary is a must see for anyone who really wants to know what is going on, but be prepared for horrific scenes of slaughter and blood and screaming of dolphins. It is so heartbreaking and the only reason they are killed is b/c the fishermen believe the dolphins are competition for their fishing industry.
