OK, so I went to Second Wind and checked out the Skim Boards. Does size matter?

Also, is it better to put wax on it or NSI pad all over for grip? Does it need a kick on the end?

Is it possible to kite a skim in the light east winds down at the spit?

Very Happy

Size does matter! Very Happy In general you want to get one of the bigger ones.

I prefer pads over wax, but some disagree.

Talk to Nate in the shop, he knows wasup!

Monkey boy and others talk about this quite a bit. At 220 in light wind say 12 mph, is it possible to get going?

What are the light wind limits? Very Happy

Sure - behind a boat

Big kite and 10-15mph - you should be good

In case you were not able to speak with Nate or Mike at the shop (I am out of town until Friday). 2nd Wind sells both the Rasta and Morphius Surftech skim boards by shaped by Eric Roush.
Both boards have been very popular, but there are some subtle differences between the two.

The Rasta has a bit rounder tail outline and is designed to be super loose and better for advanced riders or ones wanting a skim for hard/tight carving turns. I think Gman has been riding this board.

The Morphius has a bit longer rail shape with a mini-swallow cut in the tail which combine to make this board hold an edge a bit better and track with better edge control. Chanson, Nate, Mike and I have been riding this one.

Both Mike and I personally own Mophius skims, so if you call ahead, either of us can bring in our skims for you to try out if you like.

Me being around 200lbs, I have been having fun riding my skim in the kiddy pool when the wind dies off too much to fly my kite in the river, or on those days when the river current doesn't offer much swell conditions for my surfboard, I have been pulling out the skim for a challenge. I think that my skim has a comparable lightwind range with only my fat fish surfboard, so for me that is about as good as it gets for big guy lightwind riding.

If you have any more questions or want to catch me for a demo, just call the shop or pm me.

Thanks
Pepi

Morpheus and pads. wax is a messy pain in the arse. Its all fun and games until there is wax all over the car.

I'll take you up on that demo. I'm leaning towards the one with more control.

Thanks
Very Happy

You just like it better because it has Rasta in the name.
