Same engine different body and about 20% less money.
I've had mine for 4 years and it's awd. Bought it for 12,000 bucks with 30,000 miles. I get about 26 mpg and it's plenty big, with thule hamburger box, to take 3 dogs, 3kites 2 boards, and wife from point a to point b.

It's a great little car.

Very Happy

Hey all ,
Whatever happened to " BUY AMERICAN " ?

The Toyota Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe are assembled in Freemont Cal at the NUMMI Plant. Or at least they were until this recent crisis:

Now I know that's not the same as "Buy American" but hell, the last time I purchased a Ford F-150 after I drove it home and did a better inspection I discovered it was assembled in Toronto, Canada. I give up.

That said, performance wise it's a complete dog. I'm saving to buy a 2006 or later A4. Luxury interior, all wheel drive and high 5 second 0-60 when chipped!

MB I used to have a A4 it was awesome...best car I have ever driven but only had it for about 20,000 miles cause it kept breaking down....I put over $4k into it in 1 yr....save up cause unless your going to spend a ton on fixing it.

She's right, definitely a trade-off between money and driving enjoyment. For one thing tread wears quickly on high-torque AWDS, so they need new shoes more often. Also for both suspension and engine think: more power = more force = faster wear ( = more fun Wink ). Consumer Reports once wrote that if they didn't have to take reliability and practicality into account Audi was overall the best engineered marque they drove. So factor in your tolerance for reliability and maintanability accordingly. Oh, and don't forget speeding tickets and insurance premium hikes...

(I second the comment that the TDI wagon may be a good alternative!)

The Matrix seems very practical... I see lots of pole boarders driving them! Laughing

The TDI wagon also looks very similar to the audi, but doesn't ahve the 4 wheel drive. I am loving it though, great mileage, super sound system, moon roof that covers pretty much the whole roof.

Oh and diesel is about 10% cheeper than regular at the moment and you get a ncie rebate on your taxes from buying a diesel.

Got it. 2009 Volvo V50 T5 AWD R-Design. Splendid blend of mileage, roof and interior cargo capacity, get up and go, and it's a volvo so you know it's safe.
What's more is that if you take advantage of the Volvo OSD program, you can get free air fare for two for free. Even makes the car cost less than lot price. Definitely something worth looking into IMO.

Shred, is that an S4 badge I see on that Audi? Now THAT is a car that could get a guy like me in allot of trouble. I heard that the newer Audi's are less prone to breakdowns. Although I heard that from an Audi salesman..LOL

Hey MOTO, you should take some of that lawyer money and invest in the new Audi R8. 5.2 liter v10, 525 hp, 392 ftlbs of torque. Top speed 196 mph. 0-60 in an astonishing 3.7 seconds. Dude, that would hurt your neck!

That means it would take you 15 minutes to get from Portland to HR. Thumb's Up

I work at intel. The dude probably sold a ton of stock back in 2000. Unfortunately those of us that got hired in 200 have just watched our stock continuously plummit.

Martin - You've seen my Matrix. The 2009 redesign looks really sweet, and the larger engine w/ the S option does away with the lack of power issue. Drives & handles like a car.

It's also lined w/ all weather matts all the way around.

Drawbacks are:
- AWD drops ~5-10 mpg over 2wd - I get 25 mpg.
- Need a box.

The AWD would be nice but I can honestly say that the only time in 5 years that I really wanted it was when I was at Jones and wanted to drive on the sand.

That's a great clip-- "Smearing honey on kiera knightly" wouldn't be bad...
