yeah, and when I was a commercial fisherman, we got paid $.91 a pound for sockeye salmon and it sells in the store for $11.99/lb a 1,300% markup.
It costs money to ship raw beans, roast them, package them, store them, sell them, ship them again, store them again and finally...have someone in the store to take your money so you can purchase it. That's why it costs so much.
Unless your coffee house has some special connection with the coffee growers (which I HIGHLY doubt because they are so small), they are essentially paying the farmers the same rates that the evil starbucks is because they buy their coffee from wholesalers like everyone else.
This whole discussion is making me thirsty.
