OK, Just so these people understand... I can immediately count 3 close friends that purchased their retirement homes (+$600K ea.) in the Gorge (Lyle, HR, WS), in-part because of the great times we've all had in the past in at Lyle. Tax base. When I retire this is where I also plan to purchase.
And we all try and make a point of spreading $$ around when we visit, in Lyle and Bingen.
The Solstice Restaraunt in Bingen is my wife's favorite place and we almost never come to the Gorge without 3 visits to them.
And I've got my CGKA & CGWA dues paid... working on my friends. _________________ CGKA Member

Instead of wasting energy going back and forth between each other. We should put that energy into helping Forrest get Lyle reopen |

| I'll second Wylieflyote's comments. I stayed in Lyle last year specifically so I could ride at the sandbar. It's really a great spot. Invest just a little $ and the local authorities could take credit for making that that into a great spot. |

Posting as an elected commissioner...
If you want to change something you need to approach the appropriate governing/controlling organization as a group. It doesn't do any good for Fred to show up at a Lyle city council meeting asking for a crossing to be built or for Bob to call up BNSF and ask questions. It does work to have two or more representatives from an organization like CGKA to show up at the right place at the right time and present a plan or ideas that represent the wishes of it's members. Not the wishes of an individual.
An elected official does not want to be accused of "catering" to an individual. What they do want to do is be able to say is this really large group came to our commission/city council/board of directors meeting with a plan and ideas and after careful consideration we would like to do "x" as it is in the best interest of the general public.
There have been numerous people that ask me "why don't you do...." at Stevenson? I can't act on that. I and the other commissioners do act on the CGKA, CGWA, Chamber of Commerce, EDC, Girl Scouts, etc... showing up saying "we would like to........"
Work together in a coordinated manner and you'll get results. It's not as much fun and doesn't happen as quickly as being a rebel but it lasts longer.

The crossing is the best long term bet but why not a square ended row boat sliding on a cabel as a temp solution? |

The answer goes to the post before you edited. This is why things go the way they do. Turns out people write books about it. We are not unique. As a community, we passed the "I know every other kiter out there" stage. Different set of rules apply to the community now than let's say three years ago. We need to accept it and adapt to it.

And this next one really explains why things like Lyle access cannot be dealt with on the "collective good, if we keep it under the wraps" basis.

Maybe "shinny happy people holding hands" is an answer (although I hope is not) |
