Just in... Dare 2 Fly and Velawindsurf.com have just donated a 7 night kitesurfing vacation for two at Aqualina Kite Resort in Cabarete as the first place prize in the men's open division. Details below...
The weather is looking to turn around for the weekend so think good thoughts. Remember pre-registration will be open at 12:00 on Friday. Music and BBQ starts at 6:00. Rock Creek Rail Jam starts at 6:00 unless Wade is convinced to fire it up earlier.
We would really like to thank all of our sponsors who have stepped up and contributed to this event. The current economic times have really made it difficult to run events like this and we are very fortunate to have such sponsors.
So thanks... Slingshot, DaKine, Dare 2 Fly & Vela, Hood River Providence, ProMotion, Gorge.Net, Walking Man Brewing, iKitesurf.com, Gorge Delights, Water from the Hood, NWKite.com, Kite Girl, Swell Path, Puget Sound Kiteboarding Association, CGKA, Skamania County Fairgrounds and the Stevenson Chamber of Commerce.

one of my fave events in the gorge.
looking forward to a great weekend in stevenson.
With this forecast we have I wish we could move it to next weekend... Probably not gonna happen though. Bring your 16m..
Hey, come on keep a stiff upper lip. It's all about the good karma. The forecast is calling for some pressure gradient. A little bit out east would be better, but the forecast is not calling for a complete shut out, so winds will likely be okay, gusty, but okay.
Maybe we should have a burning wind sacrifice at the campfire on Friday evening?
Wow! That is one sweet prize for any contest. It should make for one hell of a reward to know that you get a week on Kite Beach in Cabarete! The food is cheap, the night life is abundant, and the kiting is world class! Good luck to all of the contestants.

Pepi, I hear ya man its just that Sunday's forecast is now turning stellar compared to Friday and Saturday... We'll all be on big kites Saturday.. Wish it could go down Sunday instead......... Usually events have a one or two day push depending on the forecast? No way to consider this?

Pretty obvious this event needs to be pushed to Sunday....
Lets have a great event, not another 2007 big kite schlog fest! Get the word out now instead of last minute!

This might be one of those special days where you start on a Easterly head downwind then wait for wind switch and downwind back on a westerly. _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

Instead of throwing the event in substandard conditions and hoping to squeeze it in for a less than spectacular gig, why not just get the word out and move it to Sunday. These events are usually a two day event depending on weather. This is nothing new to the competitive kiteboarding community. Please consider...
Modest afternoon westerlies tomorrow. Gusty westerlies building in late Sunday. Moderately strong westerlies Monday.
The closed upper low is expected to remain off the southern OR coast tomorrow with cloudy and seasonable conditions at the coast, but upper ridging over the eastern OR deserts packing the heat. Some afternoon thermally-driven westerlies are likely for Stevenson to the Corridor. On Sunday, the upper low is projected to push across the Gorge, bringing a push of marine clouds, but a build in the westerly gradients and a rush of moderately strong westerlies. Lingering clearing westerlies are expected Monday.
Saturday:
The coast seeing NW afternoon winds reaching the upper teens with a WNW 3-4 feet swell. Meanwhile, interior temperatures soar with afternoon thermally-driven gradients. Stevenson reaching upper teens. The Corridor reaching weak upper teens. Doug's to the East milder with low to mid teens.

Something tells me Wally wants the event moved to Sunday?
I believe Sunday is already listed as a backup day if the wind doesn't cooperate on Saturday.
