I seen some pictures on http://www.hanglos.net/news/180319/kitesurfnews-slingshot-octane-2010.html

It looks really cool I like how they took out the middle strut Very Happy.

so does anyone know anything about it yet? It seams like their going to be stopping the Rev, and go back to the Octane?

Yea, lots of manufactures are getting ride of that middle strut to improve the power delivery of kites. IIRC, the octane had incredible high end didn't it?

just one thing how do you go from http://www.kite-surf.com/userreviews/productpictures/2006/SlingshotOctane.jpg

to

http://www.s2as.com/pages/image.aspx?file=1&productid=3022

it's kind of funny to me, I think it looks like they could have just named it the rev 3 or something, but i like the name Octane alot Very Happy

Looks interesting, I would really like to demo. I've been testing a Griffin MMIX kite for a few weeks now. It doesn't have a center strut either. Flying characteristics and low end are favorable. Not good relaunching though.

Kudos to SS for their rapid R&D lately. This is expensive and risky for them but one of the greatest benefits you can have for the entire kite community regardless of your manufacturer of choice.

Why do we hear about SS news from the euros?

I think some at Slingshot really liked the Octane kite and wanted to bring back the name... plus they wanted to differentiate it from the Rev since its a new design and new kite.

I too think its a little sad to dump the Rev name though, they built up a great brand with that kite. Could you imagine if they all of a sudden dumped the Fuel for another name?

From my point of view and what I have to do over the phones being able to explain the difference between the Octane and the Rev will be much more easier for sure and add a bit of life back into the SLE platform. But basically there are to many changes to the kite to just call it the REV 3 or 2010 REV. Octane it is for 2010!

Stoked everyone is pumped for the upcoming gear! I'm too... Very Happy

Not sure if I'm looking at the right pic, but it looks nothing at all like an Octane!!!!

Guess its all in the way you market gear...?

North took the middle strut out on the Rebel for 09' and is putting it back in for 2010.

the center strut is only connected at the leading edge and trailing edge adding stability to the frame, probably due to some issues with collapsing 09's with heavier riders. i think the effect will be the same as the 09 and similar to that of what slingshot has done.

It just an f@#$in name.. who cares if its nothing like old octane? (that is a good thing)
The North Rhino was a venerable kite back when Norths were worthy (up until '06 IMO) and then they put out the new Rhino... Remember? It had like 10 struts (making it the first 11 Pump kite) and no guts...
Yeah I hope the new Octane is better, but every kite Ive seen with no center strut always ends up tying itself in knots after it won't relaunch..
And Slingstock?... Everyone is up in arms because they've expanded BOG into this... who cares?
Its just a f#$%in name.. Come out and enjoy it

Be careful what you see out there either it be out on the water or shotz on the web. Jumping to conclusion is dangerous to your health... HA! Shocked

Slingshot has many a proto out and about... Remember not everything you see or read is true. Wait for the official press release from SS for the complete end product and marketing hype. Idea Twisted Evil

Jack, think it had more to do with bridal attachment points on bigger sizes so North added a middle line attachment on 09's that eliminates folding issue. 2010 is a new design with angular center strut sections. It has more drive than 09 for better loft and float, and is just as efficient. Look forward to trying new Octane, looks like a winner.

Is it going to be a little lower aspect? I love the way my Rev's fly but in really gusty conditions they can flutter and try to invert. This has happened on more than one occasion and its really unnerving (not to mention it was the reason my 11 Rev exploded once).

On the plus side, SS fixed everything no questions asked and back on the water in a week. Smile

I say put the struts in-line centered with the sail cloth. That way you won't be able to tell if the kite gets inverted Smile . Besides, hi-aspect kites tend to be faster and have more poop
