So the extended forecast is out. I was thinking it would be a good idea to start talking about weekend plans since the port thinks its a good idea to shun all the kiters out of Hood River Rolling Eyes I know that there were a few ideas being thrown around: One was to head out east to Roosevelt for some mega swell and camping. Other people suggested Jones beach for camping. Or there is the North coast with the option of finding a last min. rental (all campsites are booked on the coast)....or we could always invade Florence right blowhard Wink

It's still a day or two out before final plans are made when the forecast firms up so keep that in mind.

Forecast:
One more day for strong / gusty N / NNE winds on the coast with Gorge sites seeing only mild conditions for the duration of the extended period
Light wind setup will prevail next few days as upper level ridge lifts northward across the region. This will allow a strong thermal trough to lift northward and fill the Willamette Valley thus cutting off onshore flow. Temps on the eastside of the Cascades may outpace the western valleys slightly each PM allowing a weak westerly thermal to develop but this is going to be a WAIT AND SEE situation each day thru the extended.

Thursday:
Light conditions for eastern sites in the singles with an easterly flow. Corridor sites see very light easterly / variable conditions in the morning with a low teen thermal westerly push in the afternoon. Western gorge sites see mild easterlies in the low teens at best. The coast is favored for the strongest conditions with N / NNE mid to upper 20s on tap.

Friday:
Speeds ease on the OR Coast but could still tap the upper teens / maybe low 20s with N / NE directions. The Gorge sees a day similar to THUR w/ Corridor winds maybe staying easterly in the afternoon. Cloud cover over the E desert could keep the mild westerlies from turning on in the afternoon.

Saturday:
Directions start out light and variable with a mild westerly flow POSSIBLY establishing itself as the day progresses. Speeds look to stay in the singles / maybe low teens all areas in the Gorge. Coast sites could see the return of some N / NW winds in the upper teens if things go our way with the high in the Pacific.

Doesn't look like east wind at this point, unless forecast changes.

Good plan. I am planning on being out there Sat and Sun. I think it is going to be the only place to camp this weekend. I am sure Roosevelt is packed with Windsurfers by now.

I think that's what I'm leaning towards Brian. Unless the coastal forecast pick up, if so then it would be cool to find a last min. rental on the coast. It looks like it could be one of those ideal Jones setups though...light at the coast, solid at jones, and dead in the gorge.

Don't forget the thrill of 4th of July redneck crowd coming out. Sounds like a great time though. I'll probably wait and see how my thumb feels and maybe will join for a day trip or something. I jammed it between my bar and surfboard in the shore pound.

you can tent camp,
just need to make a fort with cars to block yourself from "the necks"
or camp by the trees.. they come out at night....shit actually it might have been the 4th too... they had fireworks

last time me and sals camped we kited until dusk and woke up to 10m wind flapping the tents around..

phil and chooch, you guys should campout for sure. we're probably just gonna stay friday night then head to the north coast. saturday and sunday could pick up for shipwreck. only problem is finding camping for saturday night at the coast. everything is packed to the gills. maybe koa in warrenton.

chanson, yeah we stayed there on the fourth three years ago. i remember picking up after all the billies the next day. they left fireworks everywhere.

sweet lets do it, however sals your plan sounds a bit backwards... coast wind is going tomorrow and then shutting down into the weekend.... so hit the coast then go to jones. We'll probably be on the coast Thurs night, and then leave either Friday or Saturday depending on wind.

We'll be at Jones then Sat-Sun, maybe Friday night.

Going to try to get the jetski out there too!
