almost forgot, if you are in Melbourne hit up TAN for a gracious and generous host. She will let you know where all the hot spots in town are and the good kite spots as well.

its a great place to have a big night out and have the kiting just 15 min away.

You really need to look no further then this site. I mean NWkite is a great site but seabreeze has so much info which is easy to navigate. I lived there for almost 6 years and started kiting there in 2003 and there are a lot of great places to see.
West coast is definately best wind.
Geelong and Great Ocean road in the south has some of the best surfing(where Billabong, and 2 other surf shops first started)
Sydney has some good kiting and lots of entertainment.
Don't go to Port Douglas and Cairns in our winter to kite as the Norths season is May to Sept. Hate to see you miss some epic sessions every where else while up scuba diving. Plus some good diving in Sydney area or Upper West coast.
Here is a link to my friends site. It has lots of info for you as well.

Also if you want to really see some of the country and kite like crazy, Do what I did and lots of mates have done as well,
rent a Kombi van and drive the coast. Literally more then a hundred named beaches along the coast and great sites to see as well.
Here is a link to a little flash storyboard I put together when I did an 8 day road trip along the coast from Perth north.

Ryan - I am so not biased Very Happy If I was biased I would tell them to fly straight to Tassie! I am compromising here - give a girl a break. When are you coming back this way?

Betty - camper van is a sensational idea - you will hit all the sweet spots and get to see some incredible places. Seriously I would love to show you guys around melbourne when you get here I agree that WA seems a bit ambitious if you are only here for a month. The nullibor is not something I would willingly tackle in a camper van in january.

...er and if you get a chance to go to Tassie - it is the most beautiful place in the world.

Byron Bay, Nambucca Heads I lived in Byron 4 years saw a kiter on a surfboard in 98 !! East coast. Heaps of beaches and wind and easy to get away from tourons.

OH almost forgot Northern beaches, Avalon if your in Sydney...great surf spots and kiting. Hire a Kombi its the only way to go... Fair dinkum she'll be apples

I would also highly recommend Tassie as well... as long as your making the trip down unda. Greeat walkabouts and bloody beautiful forests.
