Mon Jun 22, 09 8:49 pm Lines on the Event site.....again |
|
|
I hate to play hall monitor. I never volunteered in middle school, and don't really want to start now, but the new event site privileges are soooo sweet that I don't want to see them disappear.
I saw a kiter laying out her lines today on the grass and asked her very politely if she was planning on hooking up her kite. She replied yes, which is when I informed her that we, as kiters, were not allowed to lay lines out on the grass and pointed to the sign that clearly states as much. She immediately got defensive, spoke of mixed messages, how others did it and how someone told her it was ok due to the height of the water and that those restrictions were not valid due to the high water AND she'd been doing it all week.
Again, I told her why (its the rules, perceived danger of kite with lines, etc) and that there isn't a relaxation in the rules for any reason at this time of year and that the spit is always available for more room. Again, very defensive, but she relented, or more like stormed off in a huff. She wasn't local, which might explain the mixed messages part, sort of, but no one else that I saw was laying out their lines.
I'm not a fan of pointing out rules, but since we are on new ground, it only makes sense to check our own. Hopefully others too will politely point out to the newcomers the rules no matter how uncomfortable it may feel and keep the sliver of grass ours to enjoy, possibly with more territory and future privileges.
Thanks-

Stone them!!! Stone them!!!
OK - I'm kidding.
Enforcing the rules suck (but its a necessary evil).
Rules in general suck - they kill the stoke - but not putting on lines is important if we want to keep that little bit of grass. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

| Is it OK if the lines are attached to the kite but not rolled out as I never detach the lines from my kite? It usually helps me speed things up so that I can get out of the way quickly when launching where people are having to wait turns. |

Ther shuld be a zone wher you can attach your line and wind them onto ur bar before heading out to hte socalld snatch patch.
And when you SWIM back from said patch you shuld have your lines wrapped on your bar. There shuldn't be any problm with a kite & bar wit wrappd lines attached and laying behind the leeding edge.
As for securring kites,, The purt should provide a cabel like the WS have so that a short leesh from the cable to the pump/fifth loop will kiep the kite from blow down the beech.
Maybe somday SOON their cun be launch zon (runway) where one person cun get a toss/catch.
But I don't fucking caer cause even though I LIVE in HR I don't want to put up with the oppressive nature of the port authority and the silf appointed kite police.
But the best solution would be to:
IMPEACH/DISSOLVE THE PORT AUTHORITY and have some anarchy
It's a pirfect xample of goverment waste Obamya want's to cut out. HA
Wuldn't hurt too ifn the CGKA was less focused on sellin geer (ie demo day) and more fucused on acces and develuping a god systim (similiar to stevensburg) for the evnt siite.
SO FUCK ALL YOU eventsite KOOKs. Tangle dangle and spank each other to yur hertz contint.

Hein stop talking bad about the CGKA...we are constantly working on a ton access issues...demo day and blowout are side projects that a few board members run we typically spend very little of our meetings talking about events.......why dont you come to a meeting and see what we are working on or better yet if you have ideas why don’t you come and help us.
Thanks CT....sucks telling people to follow the rules but sounds like you did the right thing....keep in mind they are watching us and will be re-evaluating the Event Site in Aug. |

with all due respect, Nicole, I am not bad mouthing the CGKA.
Perhaps I should restate...
It's my opinion that the CGKA should not be involved in marketing gear.
It is also my opinion that the CGKA forum section should be open to public viewing.
Sorry to piss on this thread.
I was just having fun.
my bad. |

A launch lane would be nice. Maybe in the future. Always good to hear a different opion. I don't mind the situation. I was there yesterday and it was quite relaxed compared to the weekend. All the kiters at one end and a few windsurfers on the rest of the lawn. Kind of odd. The wind was a little light for windsurfing.
I think if the Kite Association asks for a line layout and launch lane, we are going to need more self appointed beach cops or at least some clear guidlines. I have seen some near catastrophies when people tried to launch using poor judgement and no one said anything. However, things happen so fast generally no one has time to prevent it.
I appreciate it when someone offers advice, help or informs me of the way things should be done on the beach. I don't take offense. _________________ gorge geezer |

I think the Demo Day was the biggest member sign-up and fundraiser for the CGKA last year.
I agree the CGKA's primary mission should be (and is) access, but you can't do that without membership.
Event site access is all about patience, if we ask for too much we may get nothing. One step at a time... |

I think lines out on the grass is one small problem. I have seen people try to land there several times. I saw a woman pumping up her kite on the west side of the line. When I tried to give her the low down on how we do things, she says "what's the big deal, there's not very many people here". I tried to explain that a lot of people have put in a lot of energy to secure a small space for us, and if we play nice for now, we can keep it and maybe even get more. Her reply was I'm going straight to the sand bar any way, so what's the big deal.
A friend of mine tried to tell another guy the same thing, and he looked at her as if to say F---- Off! Again, there were not that many people out, so "what's the big deal" he says!
If people start laying lines out, what next? Will people think it's ok to launch there too? |
