There is a new problem developing at the event site. People are starting to lay lines out on the grass before walking out to the sandbar. This is a clear violation of the rules posted at the event site! Please do not set your lines on the grass no matter what the water level is. We have made a lot of progress this year don't screw it up for everyone.

Yea, the Port has promised some signs to state the rules, but they're taking a little to long to deploy them.

Sorry, I did that and drift-launched into the kiddie pool off the 3 square feet of sand the other day. What about lines in the parking lot, or on the street? There was clearly no way to hook up on the sandbar that day.

Good point, I won't do it again. Embarassed

If you can't successfully rig on the Snatch Patch from the Event Site, you need to go over to the Sandbar parking lot and launch there. There really are no exceptions to this rule.

Connect two lines, run your lines downwind into the water, run the other two lines out. It's not too difficult and keeps everything legit.

What if I connect my lines at home and just pump there although it doesn't look to be a problem today. http://live.gorge.net/gorgelive.asp

I never disconnect my lines. I'm not even sure why people disconnect them. I almost never have a problem and its a hell of a lot quicker to leave them connected.

I guess if I only had one bar then it would be a different story, but I've got a bar and lines for each kite.

I disconnect my lines because somehow at least half of the time I manage to cross lines when I leave them attached. Do you have any special tricks to keep them straight all the time?

I used to do this as well. I watched a video on how to do a boat launch and picked up a tip from them. if you leave the bar attached and fold the kite wingtip to wingtip then roll it up with the bar on the outside of the kite it's a lot harder to get it messed up.

I usually disconnect my lines because I don't need a bar for every kite. But last time I launched from the Snatch Patch I swore to connect my lines at home....

The agreement to not connect lines to the kite is the #1 reason for how we were able to gain access to the Event Site.

A kite with no lines attached is only an inflatable toy that will harmlessly bounce and roll if left unattended.or caught in a gust of wind.

A kite with lines attached is a potentially dangerous piece of equipment that can result in injury or death if left unattended or caught in a gust of wind.

It is a simple rule that makes sense, is logical, and has gained us access to the Event Site. Break the rules, and we break the agreement, therefor limiting our main access back to the Sandbar.

Start with your kite LE down Nose into the wind, ie normal beached position. Wind your lines up leaving enough line out to lay the kite out flat.bring the bar to the front of the kite by going around the side of the kite while passing the lines UNDER the LE. Don't ever pass the bar under the kite, ALWAYS bring it around the side. When you flip the kite upside down, keep the bar in one hand in front of the kite. The lines should always stay on the bottom side of the kite. (When the kite is upside down for inflation or deflation, the lines are now on top.)

There are other ways to do this certainly. But if you make a habit of these simple procedures you won't even have to think about it. The only times I've had my lines end up wrong is when I get in a hurry & ignore one of the steps.

Nak's instructions are good. Like Nak says, make sure to despool the lines from ONE side of the bar. Next time you see me at the beach ask for a demo. Maybe there's something I do I'm not aware of, but my lines always come out clean.

I got the kindly word on this deal on the grass the other day, then watched a dozen others run their lines.

It is so crazy on the sandbar during the weekends perhaps someone could give some explicit instructions...or even do a little video on best protocol for running and managing lines on the sandbar - including when landing. I feel a bit like a dufus getting in others way - while others don't seem to give a shit. Any words?

is it kosher to inflate the kite on the grass but with the lines already attached, but rolled on the bar, and the chicken looop attached to one of the loops on th LE? I assume the beef is with runned out lines?

Guilty. Oops, I didn't know - however, when I rolled them out on the small patch of sand, people were landing all over the place - on top of my lines, getting hooked around my kite - tangle city. Then there was the dogs to deal with also. I tried to launch twice but had to wait to untangle because 3 people dropped on me in succession. I wish people could let the launchers get out of the way before coming in and dropping their kite.

I love dogs, I have them - but I'm not a fan of them on the sandbar. Evil or Very Mad

M.
