Does any have info on kiting in Africa? Zanzibar to be exact. I have seen some mag articles of kiters in Africa. but, I am wondering what size kites to bring. I will be limited to two kites.
I will be there in late August for 3 weeks.
thanks in advance.

diani beach and nyali beach. i think august is the monsoon season and might be inconsistent. the trades are the best around nov-may.
northern africa will probably be your best bet. egypt and anything along the mediterranean should be good around that time. also SA has always got wind...and waves. althought the water is butt ass cold down there.
why you going?

Thanks all for the info. We are heading over for a photo safari and to climb Killimanjaro (19,340') I am hoping to make it a perfect honeymoon and mix in some kiting Here is some info I found:
This is a google map photo of the kite beach.

Here is a link to the local kite shop. It just happens to be at one of the hotels we were looking at

Here is the info on the wind. Sounds like the monsoon winds dont start till December and run thru april. We will be there for the "kuzi"
Zanzibar has 2 different trade winds. The “Kuzi” which blow's from the South East, starts in April and blows through out our winter till the End of December. This wind is quite consistent, and blows at an average speed of 18 knots. The wind is quite calm in the mornings and picks up later on in the day at around 14:00.
By late afternoon it can be blowing 25 knots and is very consistent. This allows the kite surfer to go between the beach and the reef as the wind blows side shore along Ras Nungwi’s beach. This side shore wind is Ideal for wave ridding and heading out the reef.
Here are some pics of the kiting beach.

I didn't think the water could get that green without radiation... suppose there's some healthy 3-eyed fish in there though. ~

mark, Diani is where I lived, just south of Mambassa. That green/blue water is the real deal. The scuba diving is amazing and the culture is even better! Youll have a great time! Zanzabar is very cool too. pm me if you have any Q's about traveling in East Africa.
