Well, it finally happened...

$1000 tickets were issued to kiters in Lyle over the weekend. Go figure...That's what happens when you keep parking on the river side & are not discreet when crossing the road or the tracks.

Thanks for ruining it for everyone else...

M.

PS. I have heard that Lyle will be fenced in a few weeks.

I saw the train actually stop for people on the tracks last year, twice in one day actually.

Yes the train stopped.

The first time it was tourists, the second time it was a dummy kiter. Both times it took the brain dead crossers a few seconds to realize the train was waiting for them, even when he was laying on the horn.

Why do people still feel the need to park in the wrong place in an endangered access area? I have never understood this. One person does it, then lots of other people feel its ok. Safety in numbers thing I guess.

Don't be a dumbass. It ought to be treated like a secret spot. Don't attract attention.

Jeeze.

wa wa wa

is it at least signed correctly?

an unknown location I frequent Laughing
has signage indicating if you stay north of the sign you are cool

and staying cool was pretty hard in front of the judge
payin my $450+ costs for her to do her job (on me)

this year the forest circus claims a correct sign will be installed
(was less than happy to contribute).

we get 3 and more different kinds of patrols a day
some bring lost dogs back
some give tickets for dog at large

even enforcement is an ideal
never attained

what sucks even more is that i've asked people to park on the north side of the highway, AND use the more discreet access trail. The people I asked to do this gave me a bunch of GRIEF stating "We come here all the time and never have any problems."

well duh, there wasn't any problems and people kept pushing it, what did they think was going to happen?

Dog, you should choose your words and direction wisely. Adam has been a very strong supporter of trying to keep Lyle open for kiters and has been on the CGKA board attending meetings with organizers for a long time now.
It sucks to have to be the perceived 'asshole' who has to tell others what is right and wrong when they, as grown adults, cannot do it on their own.

We're all in this together and it sucks that we all suffer together due to the actions of just a couple of individuals that don't listen to that percieved 'asshole' who asked them to do something safer and different than they have always chosen to do.

no one should be messing with the trains,..they (the unions) have amense power ever since this country was founded. It would be a lost battle. Best to take Magicmakers advice and be discreet. maybe the CGKA could help intervene the situation by saying the rogue kiters have been told, and ticketing them should not reflect on behalf of the kiting community.

Well that sucks. My favorite place. I wish I had a boat. Guess I should spend the 1k I would probably spend on the ticket and buy one. Glad I was lazy and didn't wanna drive that far.

Cool your jets...
A response to "who got a ticket"...sorry I wasn't glued to the site. I actually have things to do today...

NOT MADE UP: I was driving by, going to The Dalles Saturday afternoon and saw a cop talking to a kiter. On my way back to Bingen, I stopped and talked to a few people in the parking lot and that is what I was told. I don't know who these people are...some random kite tourists that I have never seen before. I have frequented Lyle for tha last three seasons, I know a few people, but not that many (why would I post a name on a public site anyway?) . It's not like I hang on the sandbar bs-ing with people (can't hear much when it's windy)- or remember their names for that that matter. I know people by what they fly & their board shorts. I'm terrible with names. Also, my husband was at the Sandbar in HR and came home and told me he had heard it there - he didn't know I stopped in Lyle and that I talked to people.

But anyhoo...it was just a matter of time. Knuckle heads who can only think of themselves when they park. Ever think, huh? If someone gets hurt, where would an ambulance park? Maybe I'm pissing off the RR if I park here.... Huh, there is posted sign, but I think I will taunt the police anyway...

There is another lot further east of the main lot. No cars there- it was completely empty on Saturday & Sunday, even though it's a very short walk.

M.

PS. I don't really care if you believe me. There was talk about a faux post at the HR sandbar clean-up(where any of you there helping?) Why would there be talk about doing it anyway? Parking/crossing has been an issue for a long time. Posting things about Lyle is tabboo. We don't want the attention there. Posting this was a bit risky for me because some people know who I am by my nwkite name. I wouldn't discredit myself like that..
