well duh, there wasn't any problems and people kept pushing it, what did they think was going to happen? |
Lighten up Magic Man, Don't you like it in the Hood, crowed little sand bar type AKA the Hood Loser Zoo!!! |
Dog, you should choose your words and direction wisely. Adam has been a very strong supporter of trying to keep Lyle open for kiters and has been on the CGKA board attending meetings with organizers for a long time now.
It sucks to have to be the perceived 'asshole' who has to tell others what is right and wrong when they, as grown adults, cannot do it on their own.
We're all in this together and it sucks that we all suffer together due to the actions of just a couple of individuals that don't listen to that percieved 'asshole' who asked them to do something safer and different than they have always chosen to do.

Hey Magic,
Yeah, I have actually said things to the rogue parkers as well. It's the same old story - basically - you get the "flip off attitude". I'm pretty cool about it - not aggro or anything, more of an informative attitude when I talk to people. Well...except this one time. A guy parked his van completely cutting off foot traffic, so you had to walk on the edge around his rig. " Pretty uncool of you to block access" is what I said. He called me a "tourist" and to go back to Seattle. Funny, cause I live in Bingen & he had Oregon plates & an OSU sticker on his van. Perhaps driving from Portland means your a local...
I'll keep on, keeping on. Not daunted in the least.

Thanks for the posting.
#1 rule in Fight Club is to not talk about Fight Club, but when things get in jeopardy due to stupidity and ignorance, something needs to be said.
Until the inevitable fence is put up (we've known about this for a while but the railroad just need another incident or two to justify it, which they now have) we will all need to continue to stick with #1 rule.
Keep on truckin' Mel. _________________ Pure Stoke Sports

Saw that shit coming a mile away. I knew that fence was inevitable, perfect place for a fence really. I told people not to park there as well, even that fucking prick in that über gay electric car. "mr. Fucking local" . I got the same tude as M. did.
People are fucking retards. Sometimes it feels like a world full of Bonettis |

The clean up in HR went great!! It was nice to see everybody jump right in and clean it up. We must have moved about 25 pick up beds full of wood. Nice job to the guys at CGKA for setting it up! _________________ Thanks for your reply |

A big thank you to all involved in the clean up.
Also, a huge thanks to Adam. Her works very hard for all of us as a CGKA board member. He gave me a very polite reminder a couple of weeks ago as I had put my kite on the upwind side of the drying area at the Event Site. Not only did I appreciate the heads-up, he also gave it to me in a very classy way.

I've only been kiting since last July, but this gives me added incentive to get off my wallet and fork out some $$$ to CGKA. The railroad can be a bear to work with (if you remember the fencing etc. concerns at Dougs Beach a few years back) --- but eventually a compromise was worked out (thanks to CGWA). Any optimism for negotiating access via CGKA or other entities? Building a trail under the bridge has also been bantered about....but it would be tough.
I drive by the Klickitat River every weekday after work and while most of the kiter cars are parked in the gravel lot on the N. side of hwy 14; there are always a couple cars/vans parked above the tracks on the S. side. I'll never get what's the big deal crossing the street???
The $1,000 tickets were a frequent topic at the rigging area at the Event Site today; some thought maybe it was just a Memorial Day thing - but who the fuck can risk getting nailed with that fine? |

| We drove by Lyle Sunday heading out to Maryhill on 'tourism' duty (family in town), and I have two good friends who were heading there for an evening session after a morning downwinder in the corridor. After wine tasting we stopped at Rufus and while I caught up with friends my Mom sat in the car watching the action. When I got back to the car she said the girl in the car next to us was talking on the phone saying they were ticketing people at Lyle for crossing the railroad tracks. |

Hey Dog,
After three of your posts, I think we get it - you don't believe it. That's fine, it's your choice - go piss on someone elses post. This one is saturated.

As Pepi said, we are all in this together, regardlesas of how long you have been kiting there or which side of the highway you have been parking on. At this point, the damage is done and pointing fingers isn't going to solve the problem. If we want to kite Lyle, we have to get involved on the political side of the issue. I'm looking for info. on how to best do this? Is CGKA the best option for political activism? Are there other options that I am not aware of? I'd appreciate any information on this.
Thanks, go big, and smack the lip! (Hopefully legally at Lyle one day) |

The CGKA is the right place to start. Attending a meeting and getting up to speed on the issues would be step #1.

I think its for not picking up after your pet
BTW - melow - I don't think anyone is trying to piss on yer post. The problem is - is that lots of people post FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) but don't back it up. I am not saying your post is FUD - but people are just trying to find out is this for real? How do you know about this ticket? DId you get one? Did your friend get one? Did Snowy get one for not cleaning up after himself? _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

Awww Jeez, this seems to be a little out of hand. Dog & I have had a private PM session. We are cool as far as I know. I'm just not all that thrilled about my integrity being in question. That is why the "piss on post" comment - I thought it was kind of funny. Yah know - dog-post. I'll keep my brand of humor to myself.
Again...I was driving to The Dalles & saw a cop talking to someone. On the way back, I stopped and spoke to a gal (cute blonde-late 20's, board shorts/bikini top) who said that she heard that people were ticketed for crossing the tracks. I don't know her or the ticketed people. I'm not a detective, nor would I post someones name on this site. I came home later that day & was told by my husband that he had heard about tickets while he was in Hood River. He didn't know I had spoken to the gal in the north parking lot. To me that meant it was verified. My husband is a truth seeker, not a gossip.
My intention of this post was to let people know what I heard, so people would be more discreet or avoid ticketing. And YES, it does matter which side of the road you park on. After Pepi reminded me/us about "fight club", I didn't even want to write about this anymore - My temper got the best of me and I did. I truly regret it. My bad.
As far as looking into the situation with gov agencies. It's been done and is ongoing. The CGKA is the best answer to dealing with the issue (Forrest had the best post so far). I recommend that if you are not a member, that maybe you all should put your $20 on the table to be better informed. Maybe attend a few meetings....
Let this thread die or maybe we should just have it pulled - sorry I bothered.
M.
PM me if you want to...but seriously, kind of burnt out on this unless there are some real "problem solves" or suggestions to be discussed. I truly care about that magic place & want to have it remain there for all of us to kite. _________________ Be kind to Kooks |
